& she gets restless
In her wild gypsy heart;
The hidden road
Beckons her wandering feet…
And the Eastern wind
Sings it lullabies through her hair.

A child of the night,
She comes and goes with the moon
(Whisper her name at midnight
And see how the moonflowers shine).

You sway to the melody of old guitars,
Making love 'neath the musing stars,
And in the morning she'll be gone
(Her dancing smile will never speak
Of love and lifetimes,
But her kiss will forever linger).

Your desires threaten
From beneath her dark lashes
And suddenly you're falling
In grey December eyes.
Craving her to reality, you reach for her,
But away she spins again.
Perhaps she is merely a waking reverie:
A gypsy song in the night
And you can't quite catch the words.

Still,
She feels small
When she looks out at the stars,
Dreaming with the tide
Of a dance under the winking lights,
A night spent with the rain,
And a man who breathes her name,
Defiant of his destiny.

(Somewhere with a view,
She thinks,
For next time).

You can taste her name on your lips…
But goodbyes remind her of
Broken words
Spoken on nights like this
(: She doesn't know what she's looking for,
But she's sure it isn't you).

And when she's but a fading memory
(Just storyteller fingertips
And the truths they seared into your skin),
You'll listen to the tide one December morning
As it comes in on the Eastern wind:
Her song will linger on the air
And you'll remember…

(And see how the moonflowers shine).
