I open my window and see you there,
with a single drop of tear
running down your face
as you say:

“Darling, you are my night and day;
any room for me up there?”

“Sorry, love, but none – I swear.
My room is vacant except for air,
but my heart has run away somewhere.”

“I’ll wait,” you say, “forever if I have to.
Give me another chance,
darling, I love you.”

“This is sweet and awfully touching,
but I have to stop it here.
Soon you’d be comparing me to the sun,
Romeo and Juliet is not how it’s done.”

“Beautiful, gorgeous, the apple of my eye–
it’s hard to hear you say good-bye.”

“Is it, really? How and why?
I heard you say that on our first night.”

“Honey, honey – that was a lie!
You were stunning, and I was shy.”

“I’m tired of hearing your cock and bull–
oh, grow a pair, boy, don’t shed tears!
Love’s not as easy as it appears.

Look at you poor thing
bawling in the rain,
your chance at love hasn’t
been flushed down the drain.

Our break up was
thunder and lightning, but
the experience
was rather enlightening.

You lose me and come back crying.
Oh, I do hope your tears aren’t lying.

I lose you and write a poem,
accompanied by my
jeroboam.”
