Book One of The Daughter of Destiny Saga
"Events are in motion
which cannot be undone."
It was the day King Gallus died that everything changed. Everything. On the continent of Seraph, the Five Kingdoms that had once existed in harmony with one another became mortal enemies. When the King died without leaving an heir to the throne, millennia old hatred and the selfish greed of man bubbled up, spilling into a bloodthirsty war. The Kingdoms were immediately consumed by raging battles, with the Rose Throne as the prize for the winner.
From the Kingdom of the North in the icy wastes to the Deserts in the far south. From the Mountain Kingdom in the east to the Island Kingdoms in the west. Fighting bubbled up and seethed violently. The Kingdom of the Rose, locked by conflict from all sides, bore the brunt of the devastation, and became desperate to protect itself.
The future of the world is an uncertainty. And amidst it all, fate weaves its intricate web, choosing those who are important, and those who are not. Deciding the destiny of many, and of all. All that was, all that is, and all that may come to pass, is threatened by destruction. Only the courage of a chosen few, will shape the future of the world…
Prelude
First Steps
Under a sky filled with curling wisps of white cloud, and glints of sunlight that poked through, Aria walked. The first steps of her journey were confident; a driving force was behind them. Large mountains reared up in front of the girl, grey lifeless rock, topped with fluffy white snow. Beyond the peaks was Seraph; the largest continent of the World… Where she stepped, grass still grew though; small brave shoots that seemed determined to go against the harshness of these plains. But their lessening frequency told her the climate was only going to become more dangerous.
Aria breathed heavily, a thin film of sweat on her forehead, caused by the exertion of carrying the giant travelers bag that sat on her back all day. At least I'm well stocked up… She thought, tapping the bag with a gleeful smile. She'd need all the food and water inside if she were going to survive this journey. And what a journey it was going to be…
Looking up at the clouds brought worries back to the girl with long red hair and chocolate brown eyes. Anxiety rose like a spire in her gullet and she swallowed against it. She worried about the reception she'd get when she reached her destination. She worried about no one believing her story. She feared she'd gotten all of this wrong. All of it.
But she could worry no longer. It was time to make a decision. It was time to do what had to be done. Her life had led up to this moment after all. That thought gave a spring to her step. She was no longer an ant in a world of giants. The insignificance of her past slipped off her body as she walked, like shackles being removed, and she felt alleviated of its pressure, freed of its constraint.
Alacrity filled her now. And under that cloudy sky, and before those towering mountains, nothing would stand in her way. Aria continued her journey, determined to meet her goal, against the odds, and against expectations.
Authors notes – Sorry that was so short, normal chapters will be much, much longer. This is just a prologue to start the ball rolling so to speak. All initial comments are welcome, and I'm so excited to start this fantasy epic that's been in my head for so long. I know this prologue doesn't explain a lot… especially Aria's bit, but all will become clear soon enough. The first chapter should be up within a few days. Also, Chronicles of Seraph is the name of the intended series; therefore I need a name for Book One. Any and all ideas are welcome in reviews! See you all soon!
