Stars shone onto the grounds of Eden, ready to witness
The Fall. “Eat this fruit,” said the serpent, the most cautious,
“For it has the power to open your eyes, and you
Shall be like God, your knowledge and wisdom due.”

So Eve was tempted, and began to desire, to crave;
She ate the fruit, and another to her husband she gave,
And said, “In my eyes are the forbidden good, the malicious
Kind, the deceitful true, the fruit of sin delicious…”

So man and woman went on sinning, and God said not a word.
At least none that they had heard.
