A/N:

Hey everybody! I wrote this poem for my Honors Language Arts class for our poetry project. It is an address poem, and I addressed the moon and the starts. Please enjoy!

Moon and Stars:

Dear moon and stars,

What is it like from way up there?

Seeing us from way down here?

What have you seen, what do you feel?

You’ve been up there for as long as we have been down here, if not longer.

You were always the silent observers that watched over us every night.

You were there when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth,

And you were there when the Egyptians built pyramids.

You watched when the world went to war, twice,

And you observed us making great discoveries.

Many people nowadays don’t care for you—

You are just something they see every night, nothing of great importance.

They think of you as just something just…there.

They are wrong.

You are there for reasons, and we should appreciate you.

At night, you both shine down on us.

The stars make shapes, so we can connect-the-dots and make different shapes:

Orion, Gemini, Leo.

The moon, why you control our tides, don’t you?

High tides and low tides.

Sometimes we see you as full, half, or not even there.

Man has been up to the moon, exploring.

You see, moon, you are Earth’s partner—sister.

You are always there beside the Earth, rotating around it.

So you and the stars look down on us,

And we look up at you,

And we see…

Each other.
