Feigning Tragedy

Attracted to tragedy in that self-indulgent way
you’re painting scars upon your wrist, feigning art
to create the perfect look of misunderstood
while spitting foulness upon the world.

Eaten away from the inside
the word ‘hollow’ never suited anyone so well.

Whispering “help me”
but never quite loud enough for oblivious ears
you’re downing mints in a failed attempt
to rid the taste of desperation from cracked lips.

So hold your breath and drown willingly
in the air of bitter remarks and burning remorse.

At least you can say you tried.
