False Sense of Heart

I need a hand to hold,

Someone to help me wipe them away,

These tears that won’t leave my face,

And I cry and cry,

But no one will help me,

My hand remains empty,

I wipe my own tears away,

They keep coming,

But my hand doesn’t stray,

I can’t open my heart like this,

It just causes too much pain,

My head’s about to explode,

From my heart’s disdain.

Who could’ve guessed,

Love would hurt so much,

Who would’ve known,

You’d never fully trust,

Why didn’t you warn me?

You’d never respond back,

What could I have done,

To make this different now?

My heart keeps dropping,

Another pause in conversation,

Your words were meant to fill it,

And you can’t do me that justice,

More tears come rolling,

You just sit back and stare off,

It’s nothing to you.

“I love you.”

I don’t believe you, “Yeah.”

You persist sternly, “I love you.”

“Alright, I love you.”

You know I can’t believe you.

Not when you can’t talk to me,

You can’t see me,

Hear me,

Not when you won’t care.

I handed you my heart,

And all the strings attached,

Now it’s failing,

And breaking.

And you hang up once more.
