Sonnets are Hard
If only I could learn to write a poem,
With fourteen lines, ten syllables in each.
One day I’ll even write them on my own
And Sonnets I will then attempt to teach.
Ev’ry second line must rhyme together.
The final couplet has to rhyme as one.
Disregarding of the wind or weather,
By Sunday night my sonnet will be done.
The rhythm I must not encumber
With mellifluous prose and metaphor.
Aspiring poets have learnt to remember
All the greatest works that have come before
Wordsworth, Coleridge, Bronte, and Shakespeare too,
In poetry have poured their souls for you.
