Scenario #21: Eventual parallel cross by Planck energy incident.
Duration: Instantaneous
Possibility of survival: .0000000000000535%
That artifact that brought in today really gives no clues to its purpose. It’s just a large, black sphere with no distinguishing features. The administrator gave specific orders to found out just what it’s supposed to do, so I’m in this for the long haul. Before running any tests, I can say this: something about it rubs me the wrong way. Like I can’t even close my eyes with the feeling it’s sneaking up on me.
I’m playing way too many horror games.

I think we’re about done with the prototype arm. We still have a few issues with the way it’ll interact with the main chassis OS, but a few more weeks of coding should minimize those problems. The shoulder coupling to the main body shows an armor weakness, but there’s nothing we can do about that without severely limiting the mobility of the limb to the main body.
Dept. 3’s finished making the legs, and are cleaning up the code so it can also interact with the weapon system’s OS pretty well. We’ve estimated that, with development of support boosters, we can achieve Mach 0.5 on the ground, although the exoskeleton might not be able to handle that speed.
I still don’t get why we’re doing this. I can understand battle androids, cyborg soldiers, False AI security systems, or even those goddamn clone soldiers that we’re hatching.
But a giant robot!? Oh, I’m sorry-Humanoid Armored Reconnaissance Platform. Yeah, I’m sure those 50mm vulcan cannons will come in real handy for looking at stuff. The prototype for this thing is going to cost more than 10 B-2s, which would really be a much more wise military investment than pouring money in hopes that you’ll recreate the events of Gundam.

The FTL Quartz-Enabled Communication Module (AKA the “Super Radio”) has finally reached the beta stages. The space probe that we sent to Mars received our test message (“Once upon a time…”) in less than .2 seconds, faster than the speed of light. However, the message it received in terms of audio quality was horrendous. At this stage, I have decided that pure quartz is not enough to send and receive FTL packets, but the shape of the quartz In the Super Radio must be very finely cut into a shape that does not garble the message as it ‘bounces’ back into a STL wave. Even with the Defense Department’s surgical cutting lasers, it’ll take months before a quartz block can be cut to acceptable specifications.

Dr. Yang’s pretty pleased with the bionic eye we made for him, if only because he helped make the alpha version. Vision’s still not up to scratch with normal human vision, and it can only see a narrow range of colors, but hey, seeing is seeing.
And losing your eye to a runaway tachyeon pulse? That’s a story for the grandkids.

I swear to God that sphere moved last night. There’s no possible way anybody could’ve moved it, since the only other thing in here is that old security bot, and he’s been without a battery for a year. Going to get some security tapes to find out what happened. Something about this just makes my teeth itch.

4D introduction doesn’t work so well on semi-sapient species. Dolphins, monkeys, whatever. They all usually start ripping out their own organs and visceral giblets with their own strength in a kind of rage I’ve never seen replicated by any kind of drug or disease. It’s a little unsettling.
As for humans, there don’t seem to be any short-term effects, although anxiety and depression are reported some months after the tests.

Danger, Bio Lab break, containment area. All personnel evacuate in an orderly fashion, security has been alerted.
“Bio Lab break?”
“A mouse with a nasty cold probably got out, you know how it is. Shoot anything that escapes from its cage until it dies, then set it on fire.”
“Hah. If PETA knew about this place, it'd be war, I tells you."

Administrative override. scuttle initiated.
Oh, f-
First half the Bio Labs get blown up, and now this crap. The security driod somehow activated without any power, got up, and moved the sphere a couple of feet for no known reason. First off, the droid has no backup power, and second, the droid's memory chip had been removed months ago, making it a useless hunk of metal.
What the hell is going on? Did the sphere somehow make it just get up and move it like a puppet? This is some Stephen King voodoo.
