My heart is beating harshly
in my breast, slamming against
my sternum, squeezing pints of
blood through my thin arteries
and crashing into my brain. I can’t
tell if it’s excitement or
anxiety that I’m experiencing…
whatever it is,
I wish I could make it stop.
