We, who are as big as ourselves
Wearing our hearts on our sleeves and
Our dreams tattooed into our eyes
We, with our own demons spun from
Weathervanes and dreamcatchers, and
Clawing at our throats and lungs

We, who wish to fly, to cast off our
Skins and bone fragments and tender
Nervous systems made from spider's webs
Neurons firing galaxy-stars in my mind
And as I look into the firework sun
Something stirs inside my heart

We want to be a part of something
Bigger than ourselves, and yet
What can be bigger than this earth?
We strain wingless backs to the skies and
Pray for deliverance from rusted chains
Forged from our traiterous words.

Something fluttering in my heart...
