Time passes by in weird ways. It speeds up, and drags out. That’s how it lulled, my first day back. Everyone stared as I walked down the hall with my held high, all the while dreading my decisions. But I kept walking, and I pretend I didn't see the looks that were being shot at me from all directions. Because if I could pretend I couldn't see or hear their piercing stares or negative voices, then I could pretend that I was alright. And if I pretended hard enough, I'd start to believe myself.
"Kayleigh hurry up we're going to be late!" I sighed as the voice infiltrated my thoughts. I was laying on my bed, headphones in , eyes closed. When I opened them I saw my older sister leaning against the door to my room.
"I changed my mind," I said. "I don't want to go out tonight."
"Too bad," she said pouting.
"Caroline, I don't want to go to a club!"
"I can't believe you dragged me to this club," I grumbled. We were standing outside of The Zone, a nightclub where my sister and her friends were regulars at. It was absolutely packed considering it was a Friday night, and we lived in Los Angeles.
"Oh, stop complaining! You'll have fun," my sister said already giddy.
"Yeah, and maybe you'll find a rich, hot guy!" said Lilly, who'd been my best friend since preschool.
"Somehow I doubt it," I laughed, shaking out my light brown curls.
I locked arms with Lilly, and Caroline as we walked into the pulsing club. There were lights flashing everywhere, and even though it was only 10 o'clock, the whole place was packed with hot, sweaty bodies. I knew for a fact that The Zone, was a regular haunt for a lot of celebrities.
"Oh my God! I just saw Lindsay Lohan!" Lilly squealed, jumping up and down.
See? I don't make these things up.
"I heard Aiden Radford was going to be here tonight," my sister explained leaning in close. I rolled my eyes at her. Aiden Radford was one of the lead characters on one of my sisters favorite shows. It was placed in a high school setting, and was called Love in Fourth Period. He'd also worked in high budget films, with the likes of Johnny Depp, and Leonardo DiCaprio. He was undeniably handsome, but famous people always seemed stuck up to me.
"Who cares if Aiden Radford is gonna be here," I said. "I just hope he doesn't ruin my night." Lilly and Caroline rolled their eyes at me.
"Whatever, Kayleigh, you know you think he's hot," Caroline said, smirking. My mouth dropped open and I slapped her arm.
"I do not!" I protested.
"Then why did I hear you mumbling his name into your pillow last night?" She asked.
"I did not!" I yelled. She raised her eyebrows at me.
"Oohh Aiden! Aiden!" She moaned, trying to mimic me. I gave her a half hearted glare, and smacked her again with my purse.
"You're sooo hilarious."
"Aren't I just?" I laughed at her, and since it was catching soon we were all laughing. We made our way to a little table, and collapsed into the chairs, gasping for air.
A waiter came around to where we were sitting, and asked for our orders. And although I'd tried to go the nonalcoholic route my sister intervened.
"Oh, no she'll have an apple martini," she said to the waiter, when I'd tried to order a diet coke. I gave her a dirty look when he left.
"Caroline! I'm only seventeen," I said whispering the last word. She rolled her eyes at me for the hundredth time.
"Oh please! Live a little!" She said nudging my arm. "Plus they don't check ID's." She gave me such a warm smile that I forgot for a minute I was angry at her. But the smile soon slid off her face, as she look at the entrance doors behind me.
"Oh...my God," she said, her eyes wide. I followed her gaze, but obviously didn't see what she did.
"What?" I asked. I looked to Lilly for help, but she was staring in the same spot, with an identical look on her face.
"You guys?" I said, waving a hand in front of their faces.
"Oh my God it's him," Lilly whispered.
"Who?" I asked, looking to where there stare was held. All I could see were two burly men in black suits. I kept on staring, and then suddenly the men stepped aside, and I understood Lilly and Caroline's reaction.
Aiden Radford. He was standing at the entrance of club surrounded by bodyguards. I continued to look at him, and for a split second I could have sworn he was looking right at me. But then he was ushered away by the two men, and I immediately shook it off. When I turned back around to face Lilly, and Caroline the were both staring at me wide eyed.
"What?" I asked, annoyed.
"He looked at you," Caroline said, almost sounding accusatory.
"No he didn't," I protested. "And even if he did, so what?" They both shook their heads in amazement.
"Whatever," Caroline said, downing her drink and standing up.
"Where are you going?" I asked. She gave me a big grin.
"To find me a man." Lilly and I laughed as she tore off, and disappeared into the middle of the club.
We sat there for a little while longer, until a man a little older than us came up to Lilly.
"My name's Harry," he said smiling. "Dance with me?"
Lilly shot a glance towards me, eyebrows raised, asking for permission.
"Go ahead," I said, giving her a reassuring smile. "I'll be fine."
And I was. But five martini's later I was definitely drunk. Realizing this, I stood up to find Caroline, but lost my balance. Before I hit the ground though, a pair of strong arms circled around me pulling me upright.
"Woah, easy," a deep voice said from behind me. I turned around quickly, coming face to face with a guy about my age. He looked oddly familiar, but as drunk as I was, I really couldn't tell where I'd seen him before. He gave me a smile as I stared up into his face.
"Hi," he said, chuckling slightly. "I'm Aiden."
"Hi, Aiden," I said, lowering myself back into the seat. He came and sat down opposite me. "I'm Kayleigh."
"Nice to meet you Kayleigh," he said.
I don't remember much of what happened that night. I do remember leaving the club with Aiden, and letting him take me to his apartment. And I remember sitting next to him on his couch, and talking to him as if we were old friends. I remember him kissing me, and then things started to escalate until both of our clothes lay in a heap on the floor. And I especially remember the way his lips felt against my own.
When I woke up the next morning, I was lying in Aiden's bed the sheets wrapped tightly around me. I blinked a couple of times trying to remember where I was. When it came to me I sat up in bed quickly. The motion must've jostled Aiden awake because he sat up in bed, and wrapped his arms around my waist.
"Good morning," he whispered into my ear. That's all it took. I sprang out of bed and ran around the room collecting my clothes, hastily throwing them on.
I knew where I'd seen him before. I was in bed with The Aiden Radford.
"Where are you going?" he called, as I ran out of the room.
"Home," I said. He followed me, shoving on a pair of boxers, and a pair of pants.
"Ok," he said. "Let me take you."
"No!" I said, almost to forcefully. I closed my eyes, and tried to calm myself. "Thank you, but I can get home by myself."
And with that I walked out the door, leaving him staring after me. It wouldn't be the last time I would walk out on Aiden Radford, but at the time I believed it would be. How wrong was I?
