Forgotten

Walking past an overgrown meadow

And weeds that have triumphed over flowers

Past untrimmed trees

And a creek that used to flow and laugh

Past a creaky gate no longer used

And rusted swings stirred by the wind

Past grassy hills where children once played

Tumbling down the slopes

Sunburned faces and wide innocent smiles were commonplace

Past the once green lawn

Couples old and young picnicked under a cheery sun

Along an ancient unused path hidden in shadows

Lies a great tree now bent with age

Still guarding the ghosts of joyful days long past

Against which I can lean and let my troubles melt away

Relaxing in the cool shade

Listening to the silence of the abandoned park

Protected by happy memories

And shielded from the unfriendly life outside

Peacefully I lie there comforted

Forgotten and unnoticed
