I swear it wasn’t me
Who slit his throat and hung him out to dry
I swear it was not I
Who took away his life

I’m so innocent, you see
It couldn’t have been me
I have an alibi prepared
I was a little lost inside my mind
I’m sure you know how it can be
When thoughts start running into each other
And voices overlap
You see, officer, I’m innocent
Perhaps the perp is he?

The gruff one, sir
A little rough around the edges
It wasn’t me but he
Who shoved a bullet in the victim’s brain
Yes, I do believe it’s true
Don’t cuff me for he is the one to blame

He is a different man than me, I promise
Don’t push me in that car
Turn those sirens off, you fool!
I am not your man!

It could have been the tall one, sir
He’s quiet and reserved
He’s always seemed somewhat suspicious to me
Perhaps you meant to capture him
When you stumbled into me

Don’t put me in this cell
I don’t belong in here!
I’m innocent, innocent
Innocent, dear God, officer, it wasn’t me!
