On the edge she stands
Searching for your hand
But in the dark she cannot see you
Calling to her desperately
One step and she’ll be gone
Just one step
One. Step.

A gun in his hand
He holds it to his head
He’s so sorry to leave but he doesn’t have a choice
He’ll pull the trigger and he’ll be gone
Don’t try and stop him, he won’t listen
Don’t take another step
One step and he’ll be gone

She sucks in her breath
And watches the headlights of cars speeding below
It’s time to go
Time to go
You call and beg her not to leave
But she says it’s time to go

He holds his breath
Shuts his eyes
It’s time to go
He rests his fingers on the trigger
Now it’s time to go

With one step you could have saved him
One step you could have won
Instead you stood and watched the gun go off
Listened as it rung

One step you could have stopped her
You could have held her back
Instead you stood and watched her jump
Into a world of black

Suicide is the third leading cause of deaths of people between the ages of 15 and 24. It is the fourth leading cause of death of children ages 10 to 14.

In a survey of high school students it was found that an average of 1 in every 5 teens has thought about suicide, 1 in 6 has made plans for suicide, and over 1 in 12 students has attempted suicide. 8 of 10 teens who have committed suicide had reached out for help before their deaths.

Although a larger number of females attempt to take their lives, more males are successful. This is due to methods they use. Girls are more inclined to try and die by a drug overdose or slitting her wrists, passing out before dying and giving people time to find her. Boys use quicker, more lethal methods, such has death by hanging or shooting themselves. Over half of teen suicides are performed with firearms.

Nearly 5,000 teenagers commit suicide every year.
