He promised you love and never ending cheer;
Instead you suffer and shake with fear.

He said he loved you and that you were the one;
But everything became dull and suddenly you were done.

His words were heartfelt, his gaze full of feeling;
If only you had known they hadn’t held any meaning.

When you tell him you want out after fighting all night;
He falls on his knees and hugs your legs tight.

“Baby, don’t leave me—without you I’ll die!”
With a shuddering breath you begin to cry.

You know it is wrong; you want to break his spell;
You curse the day for his words you fell.

But when he holds you like he does, and he touches you that way;
You convince yourself with him you wish to spend your days.

Someday you’ll awake with him and find yourself lost;
Realizing your life was all it cost.

For my Sammy.
