You were the king of my world
The swans trumpeted for us
When they sensed us lying together in the grass beside their waters
So close that when the waves rolled in they caressed us
In fantasies it doesn't matter
Dresses don't get water stains.
But then they appeared on my skin
One by one with your indiscretions
Covering my body little at a time
For all the kisses you left elsewhere for those months
Before I realized what those blotches meant
My whole flesh was a new color
And it took even longer to note
How much prettier it was.
And so I left, I fled the castle
And I went down by the lake
Where the swans bowed their heads and let me touch them
Their eyes made of sympathy and pride
Because they knew I'd found my own fairytale
