This is the rewritten version of I May Be in Love With Spiderman. Though that edition was never finished, I couldn't see any logical plot, so I discontinued and started over. Many of the details and parts will be the same, but hopefully this is a little better organized. I'll be posting pictures of characters to my profile, so check there if you'd like to see who everyone resembles!
As per usual, I'd appreciate any and ALL reviews! ~Emma

Prologue

He took her hand and giggled, a blue sugary stream trickling from the corners of his mouth, sneaking through the hole where his bottom incisor used to be.

“You gots some red poopsicle on your chin, Kay,”

“You called it poopsicle!” she shrieked, thinking it was incredibly funny to even utter the word ‘poop’. “You got some blue stuff on your chin.”

He tried to lick it up with his tongue but failed miserably, contorting his face to such odd angles, she was worried it would get stuck that way.

“Here,” she giggled gently, reaching out a chubby finger to wipe it off. She waggled it in front of his eyes, showing him the melted blue popsicle she had wiped off.

“Kayleigh?” he started, his voice suddenly small and sheepish, a side she had never seen in him. “Can you promise me something?”

“Of course. Whatever you want,”

“Promise me we’ll always be bestest friends, like our daddies, okay?”

“I pinky swear it,”

He grinned wildly and clasped her pinky with his, looking startled when she pressed her lips to her hand and waited for him to do the same. Then, she spit. As five year olds, it was set in stone for them to be best friends forever.

But even stones can break.

“Do you think Kayleigh’s cute?” Tyler whispered across the table.

“Ew, no. That’s gross,” Blake hissed back, even though he knew it was a lie. His ears were burning, the same way they did every time Aunt Miriam stuck her face in his and proclaimed that she would be all over him, if he wasn’t family.

--

“Tyler?” she whispered under the shade of the oak’s tree house. “I… I just wanted to tell you, I think you’re really nice.”

“You’re nice too,”

“And that I like you,” Blake watched her duck her head down coyly. “More than the way I like Blake. I like you.”

Tyler looked away over his shoulder and then back at Kayleigh.

He put his small hand on her shoulder, “I know,”

Blake watched her lift her face towards his and, very innocently, Tyler leaned across and pressed his lips to the bow of her mouth. It was over in an instant, but it left a feeling in Blake's stomach that wouldn’t go away.

At the end of recess, Kayleigh and Tyler were walking back towards the school hand in hand. In a sudden spurt of determinedness, he sprinted up towards them and yanked their hands from each other’s. Kayleigh tumbled to the ground, but Tyler was left in his grasp.

“Don’t you dare go near her, ever again,” he growled darkly before drawing his tiny fist back and slamming it into his jaw with an audible thump.

The playground quieted immediately and Jenny Marcus, a mousy girl who always kept a container of gummy bears in her Care Bear tote to snack on, ran to get Nancy, the recess aide.

Kayleigh glowered up at Blake from the ground, her honey eyes continuously flicking to Tyler, who was hunched on the pavement, clutching his face.

“What’s your problem Blake?” Kayleigh shrieked.

“You can’t like him,” Blake ordered quietly. “You can’t.”

“Well, I do!” she shouted forcefully. “Get. Over. It.”

“I won’t,”

“Then don’t you ever talk to me again! I hate you, Blake Keegan!”

“Fine! I hate you too!”
