“Maybe we could just take a break?” my friend asked, her smile desperately trying to hide her fear. I knew what she feared, she was afraid of ruining her social status. Like I could care less.
“No, this is our one and only chance, I mean one more year of High School and we’re gone off to college. We have to take a chance.” I replied, I grabbed her hand and squeezed it. “I’ll be right there too, remember? Nothing bad will happen.” I wish I had changed my words. I didn’t know what would happen. All I knew was that we had a date, a double date, with these guys that just moved into our neighborhood. We had nothing to lose, no dignity, since that coming school year we would be seniors and well on our way to college where social status are would start all over. So why not break down a few barriers, have a few dates with guys you hardly know? After all, they asked us out. How bad could it be?
I wish I knew better.
“I dunno Jenny. They could be real big perverts.” My friend said, her voice shaking, trying to think of a way out of her dilemma.
“Then we’ll dump them. Who cares? I mean, as a senior your practically an adult right? Who cares if there perverts or whatever! This is our time to just go crazy! Besides, what could go wrong?” I said, grasping my friend’s shoulder and shaking it firmly. “Senior year is a time of partying!! Not listening to your gut and parents! It’s a time to have fun, Liz!” Lizzie nodded slightly, as if in agreement but mostly disappointment. She knew I was the party animal.
I wish I knew better.
