A+ A- |
drip drip
You took a shower in the next room,
purple swirling down
around your ankles;
I could hear it screaming.
drip drip
Leaky pipes corroding
in my eyes
(I'm not crying),
and even though I don't believe,
I'll make-pretend for you—
forgive my foolishness.
drip drip
Grocery store coffee
like road tar brewing,
black water soaking through still air,
caffeinated, acidized bitter blue—
lack of oxygen.
drip drip
Rain filled sanctuary
where we buried an unborn,
life created in the midst of self-destruction,
teenage stress relief gone stressful
because we're selfish.
drip drip
Finally we said goodbye
like lovers do,
words transcending locked lips
so that later we could make up what was said
when clear thoughts sought
our separate company.
drip drip
You took a shower in the next room,
scrubbed infidelity from knitted eyebrows
to unravel,
water washing wishes down the drain;
when I came, your mind already said
"alone."
drip drip, drip
Cracked faucet takes me home.
