I kept staring at the doorway, unable to move. There was a group of vampires coming into the room. I blinked. No, it didn’t go away. It wasn’t a dream. It was way too real. Vampires surrounded me, while I was still sitting on the bed and just staring. I couldn’t even scream anymore. Surprisingly, none of the vampires tried to touch me, but they all stared at me with hungry looks in their eyes.
It felt almost like being in a pool with sharks and covered in blood. But one vampire was still standing at the doorway. And somehow the rest of them were standing around so he could be seen. Suddenly I knew he was the leader. He was the one who would tell them to attack or not.
The vampire smiled at confused and frightened look on my face. He was tall, probably 6’0’’. His hair was black and short, his eyes glowing light blue and he wore some kind of a black and golden cloak. The only thing missing was the crown. I frowned. Was that guy a vampire king? He didn’t look older than 35, but then again, human age didn’t have anything to do with vampire’s.
I looked around for Alexander, hoping he managed to escape through that secret hall. But there were two vampires holding him in the corner of the room. The look on Alexander’s face was telling me something was wrong. Terribly wrong. He looked at me then back to the vampire king and tried to get free even harder, but those vampires held him in place.
My heart was suddenly beating too fast, my hands sweating, because if Alexander couldn’t get free, then I was…
“Well, well!” the vampire king’s arrogant voice startled me. I disliked him from the moment I saw him, no matter he was hot. He moved closer to the bed and me, almost dancing through the room. Other vampires just smiled since it was obviously a show just for me. Great.
“Leave her alone!” Alexander yelled. The vampire king stopped where he was, rolled his eyes, and looked at Alexander. Something happened because Alexander gasped and I saw blood coming down his face. I just stared in surprise. Was the king so powerful? Did he do that just with power or I missed one of other vampire’s movements? I didn’t have time to think because the king’s attention was back on me. I gulped. This didn’t seem good.
“And what’s your name, pretty lady?” the king offered me his hand in dance-like movement. I just stared at his hand, not really sure what he was trying to do.
“Look at me.” he said after I didn’t move a bit.
“No!” Alexander yelled.
“Shut the fuck up!” the king frowned and made a move with his hand. I had a second to look back at Alexander and see him flying through the room, crashing into things and finally falling down. Two huge vampires were next to him in a second, holding him again.
“Don’t.” I whispered, trying to look everywhere but into the king’s eyes. Alexander obviously didn’t want me to do that.
“Don’t what, princess?” the king smiled, showing off his fangs. I couldn’t help myself; I wanted to look into his eyes for some strange reason. Maybe he was doing that to me. I looked up into those cold silver blue eyes.
“Don’t hurt Alexander.” I whispered, knowing that even my voice trembled with fear.
“Who are you?” the king looked at me curiously. I kept looking into his eyes and it seemed like no one else was in the room but us. If it was possible to get lost in someone’s eyes, it were his eyes. I blinked and it was enough to become aware of the room again. I gasped, looking away from him.
When I looked back, I realized he was frowning. He kept looking at me than at Alexander.
“Take them both to our place. Now!” the king yelled in almost angry voice. I had no idea what had made him like that, but he was suddenly serious and wary.
Suddenly, a vampire grabbed my hand and pulled me with him. They were taking us somewhere and that fact scared me to death. Especially because I had no idea what was going on!
“Walk with me like we’re together.” vampire holding my hand whispered into my ear as we were walking out of the room “Try something and you’ll be dead before you know it.”
I believed him. We walked like a group of good friends, which was ridiculous actually. Friends didn’t threaten to kill you if you let go of their arm. Two vampires were walking in front of me, both tall and dressed like bodyguards. Behind me were another two bodyguards.
The vampire king followed them and after him there were three more vamps with Alexander. I looked at Alexander’s face and there was no trace of blood. The vampire king was more powerful than I could ever imagine or maybe his powers were strong just for vampires of his own kingdom. Part of me was hoping someone would find something suspicious about us and call the police, but another part was sure that person would be dead long before doing such a thing.
Somehow vampires managed to get us all into a huge van. We drove for some time, mostly in silence. I wondered were these vampires so silent when their king wasn’t around. Probably not. I looked at Alexander, trying to get some kind of sign from him, but he just looked away. I don’t even know what I was expecting. Maybe some nice lie how everything was going to be just fine? Yeah, right. Maybe in another lifetime.
When I could see things around me again, I was standing in a huge room. If that was even a room. Two of the vampires brought more torches and there was enough light now for me to see the vampire king sitting in a chair in the middle of the room. The whole thing looked like some ancient throne room because everything around me was made of stone. Even walls were made of stone blocks.
There wasn’t much to be seen. There were few more chairs around, a table in one corner of the room, something that looked like an old torture machine in another corner…and tons of cobwebs everywhere.
The air was very damp and smelled of death, which made me want to throw up. The pressure in my chest was stronger and stronger and I felt a bit dizzy, but taking in a deeper breath would definitely take me over the edge. I just didn’t want to faint or throw up around these vampires. It would probably make my death faster, but I didn’t want to die! Hoping even there wasn’t hope. Yup, that was me.
I realized no one was holding me. Vampires were so sure of themselves to let me unguarded, but then again there was nothing I could do anyway. I had no idea where we were, but I had an impression it was somewhere no one would find me even if I managed to escape. Suddenly I realized vampires were staring at me.
“You…” the king wasn’t sitting in his chair anymore, which made me gasp. He was too damn fast. That made him smile for a moment. Great. I just loved to be amusing for vampires!
“Don’t come near me!” I managed to say. Everyone laughed except Alexander. He just stood there between two vampires and glared at me. Did I say something wrong?
“You’re funny!” the king laughed, but stopped in the middle of the room “Why don’t you tell me what’s your name?”
“Why?” I whispered “I don’t know your name.”
“Ha! She really is fun!” the king looked at Alexander for a second and other vamps just kept grinning at each other. God, why was I the one who felt crazy? I had no idea what was so damn funny. I looked at Alexander desperately and something in his eyes was telling me this was a game vampires played with their victims. He didn’t look a bit surprised.
“My name is Deimos.” the king laughed “And don’t worry! You’ll be screaming it later.”
Everyone laughed. Great. He might have been a vampire for thousands of years, but he was still a man. And really stupid one. Not that that would help me or anything, but still.
“Leave me alone or…” I stopped in the middle of the sentence.
“Or what?” Deimos raised an eyebrow curiously. I really had no fucking idea! Could I hurt him? No. Could I kill him? Ha, ha, nice try. Could I do anything at all? Probably not. I sighed. I didn’t want to play anyone’s game just to get killed in the end. I didn’t want to amuse them anymore. I was getting mad, really mad.
“Nothing.” I suddenly said and everyone stared at me “You’ll never be as good as Alexander.”
There was silence in the room for a second. Deimos’ face looked like I just hit him with something heavy. Alexander seemed to be angry on me, even I had no idea why. The rest of the vampires just looked…scared? Naw, probably not. Or maybe they were scared of their king’s reaction.
Suddenly something like a wind hit me. But it went around me, playing with my hair and dress. It was just a wind, cold and strong but it calmed down. Deimos was frowning. Obviously, his powers didn’t work on me, just like other vampire’s powers. And this wind that was supposed to throw me across the room was just another…vampire power. I think I smiled, but only for a second. There were still million other ways for me to die this night.
“What…have…you…done?” Deimos’ voice was like a thunder as he walked over to Alexander. I realized that most of the vampires tried to back away from their king. Even those two vampires let go of Alexander, who just started to laugh. Once again, I had no idea what was going on, but that was nothing new.
I saw just a blur of movement and suddenly Alexander was down on his knees and Deimos opened his mouth like he was going to…oh! I gasped as Deimos bit Alexander’s neck. I looked around, realizing most of the vampires were now closer to the exit. They looked frightened and some even ran out of the room. What was going on?
When I looked back at Deimos, he just stopped feeding…or whatever he was doing and threw Alexander to the ground. Fear washed over me as Alexander didn’t move a bit, just fell down. Deimos, however, looked like he was loosing his mind. He let out a terrible shriek which made me cover my ears. Things started flying around the room, even some rats. It seemed like Deimos was trying to create a tornado. Strangely enough, the torches near the wall stayed untouched.
I looked at Alexander in panic. Oh please, be alive! Or maybe I should have made that in please, stay undead. I didn’t care about anything else. I just wanted him with me again.
I had to close my eyes for a moment because the wind was bringing dust into my eyes. When I could see again, I saw Alexander move. He raised his head towards me, looking at me, his fangs running out. I looked at him in surprise, unsure what he was going to do. Suddenly he rose off the ground and ran…at me! The look on his face was hostile and I had no idea what to do. I wanted to move out of his way but he was way too fast.
I felt his hands grabbing me and pulling me closer to him. Before I had time to react, he bit me. I wanted to scream, but I couldn’t. The pain was horrible, like someone was trying to rip my soul out of my body. I thought he was going to at least rip my throat out. He seemed to be trying to get as much blood out of my neck as possible. I wanted to push him away, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t even move. The pain continued for what seemed like a century.
Suddenly he let go of me and I fell down to the cold stone floor. I couldn’t move, but this time because I was too weak, too tired. Alexander didn’t even look at me. He just went to stand opposite from Deimos, who stopped with his raging and just stared at Alexander.
“You monster!” Deimos yelled, pointing a finger at Alexander “You took her power! You exchanged blood for three times!”
“Nice of you to notice it, father!” Alexander smiled, still covered in my blood. He looked like some wild animal. I stopped trying to move and just watched the scene. What were they talking about? Was Deimos talking about me somehow? Did we really exchange blood for three times? I wasn’t sure. But what bothered me the most was, could Deimos really be Alexander’s father and of course, I again had no idea what was going on!
“I’m still stronger than you!” Deimos said as he and Alexander walked in circle, facing each other like two predators “I had blood of two humans born on a special day!”
“But she’s still alive.” Alexander said, glancing at me “She won’t die…yet.”
I stared at him in disbelief. He said I wouldn’t die…yet? Was I missing something? Damn!
“You won’t do it, boy.” Deimos smiled suddenly “You don’t have the guts to kill me.”
“No? I’ve been planning this for months! Waiting it for years!” he laughed bitterly “But no! You had to ruin my plan back in the hotel and bring us here! Just your anger made you blind…again. Thanks for letting me complete the plan!”
“I knew you were plotting something! Ever since someone killed Victor!” Deimos yelled “That’s why you came all the way here…to hide from me! I know now what you wanted! You wanted to do the exchange here, wait so you can control the power better and then come against me! But no, I won’t let you! You’re not good enough to beat me. I’ll just finish something I should have done much earlier.”
The fight started. Don’t ask me how I knew. I just did. Part of me was connected to Alexander and the bond just felt like it was using some kind of power, taking even more energy from me. I blinked, it was hard to keep my eyes open. I tried to focus and saw Alexander crashing against the table in the corner of the room as Deimos laughed. Was it true that Alexander couldn’t control well the power because it was all new to him? I looked at Alexander’s face as he got up and I saw so much anger, hate, pain…The pure force of his emotions almost made me cry out.
Suddenly, Deimos was pressed against one of the walls, unable to move. Alexander was getting closer and closer to him. Deimos looked frightened, trying to gather his power but it obviously didn’t work. My vision was getting blurry. I knew I was going to loose it if the fight went on. Alexander’s power was taking bits of my energy and it was too much.
They were talking something more, in a language I couldn’t understand or maybe it was just my inability to make my brain work again. Dark spots danced in front of my eyes and my breathing was getting slower. The pain in my chest was overwhelming. My eyes closed.
I managed to open my eyes again for a moment and see Alexander ripping out Deimos’ heart. I didn’t want to see the look on Alexander’s face because it was horrible, dark, cold and cruel look. He wasn’t the person I fell in love with. It was all just a lie. Just a lie so he could get what he wanted. Power. I didn’t quite understand how he did that all and how it happened, but suddenly I didn’t care. I closed my eyes.
I took another deep breath and got just more pain. I opened my eyes, slowly. I had to close them again because there was really light in front of me. I blinked. It looked like sun, coming through…some kind of window? I tried to move a bit, causing myself more pain but I managed to turn my head away from the light.
It was the same place, that weird throne room. Things were thrown around, there was dried blood on the walls and what was the most important, I was alive and alone. Memories of last night came back to me, just I wasn’t even sure did that happen just a night ago or I was out for hours, days...
It took me some time to get up somehow and try to reach the stairs to get out and ask for help. I just hoped this place wasn’t out in nowhere. There was blood all over my clothes, most likely mine. My whole body ached like someone threw me at the wall too many times. My throat was dry and sore. But that all didn’t hurt as much as my heart did.
I remembered Alexander killing Deimos. He needed me alive to accomplish that, apparently. But after he was done, he left me here to die. He left me. I trusted him, I loved him, but it was all just a fucking lie.
Suddenly, I heard cars passing by. Maybe I was still somewhere in town. I decided to go for help. I could think of all other things later. I had to recover. I had to find out the truth about what had happened to me, what this whole thing meant and who I really was, because last night just left me even more confused. And after I’m finished with that, I’ll kill the vampire who broke my heart.
The end.
