Glass Rose
She was fragile,
Her arms pasty white.
She was enamored
With a heroic knight.
.
But he did not know,
And she wilted away
After another girl was bestowed
With the wish she wanted someday.
.
She couldn't handle
That he had a beau;
She gave up her tantalizing dream
Of one day having him know.
.
Encasing herself
In a coffin of glass,
She vowed that nobody else
Would ever make her feel like he had.
.
She lay there for eons
Inevitably sleep overcame her.
In that clear glass tomb
She lay in deep slumber.
.
Her arms crossed over her heart,
An eternal sign;
With roses in hand
Which became her namesake after time
.
Glass Rose she was called
In the days that would come
And men came from all over
For she had said one would wake her, only one.
.
One man scoffed at the story,
Figured it false,
Laughed that it was just a tale
To make fools of them all.
.
But just to prove his point,
He ventured in the cover of night
To awaken a damsel,
To see if there really was one with such a plight.
.
But so beautiful was she
That he lost himself
And lifted his fingers
To the roses she beheld.
.
With a start she awoke,
A faint smile dancing on her lips.
It might not have been the knight,
But he was the one; she sure was his.
