What You Said

In the darkness
I see you, shuddering in silence.

I have not seen a lot.
I barely understand a thing.
But then, I am no boy of dense
when I hear you smothering.

I whimpered a question foolishly
although it was not necessary
"Does it hurt?"
To my surprise, you said no.
No it doesn't.
It doesn't, it doesn't.

I only stared as the colours drifted
from white to black, from black to red.
I bit my lip and wished to decline
but as my lips parted, you shook your head.

But why,
oh why,
oh why.

"Dear boy," you said,
"You might not comprehend
right now. But there comes a day
when all sufferings fade away.
And you will no longer feel pain,
no longer feel, not refrain;
for there are things
much more vexatious -
it tears your heart
apart.”

I knew from the start
you would not survive.
And yet you smiled at me sorrowfully,
as the light above the sun arrived.
You floated, gloated until you're free
of chains, of life, of fake slumber,
as I stood underneath, as long as anyone
could remember.

In the brightness,
I see you, rejoicing in silence.
