I first started writing this story, when I was reading and following the advice in Gail Carson Levine's book Writing Magic: Creating Stories That Fly. In that book, she tells readers how to improve their writing abilities on various different sections, such as how to write beginnings, how to write details, etc. (and yes I know that using etc. is not good for stories, I am just lazy!)

The first exercise in the book asked the reader to write a short story using one of the following sentences as beginnings:

1) I have one green eye and one brown eye. The green eye sees truth, but the brown eye sees much, much more

2) The Ghost was eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

3) I would list more except, I would be breaking copyright law… so errrrr… sorry…

Anyway, I wrote my way through the book and for most of the exercises I tried to fit in my first short story as part of this. After awhile, I noticed I practically have a story going. So, I decided to edit it a little and publish it on fictionpress. Enjoy!
