The plane ride was short. After I got off, I headed to the bathroom. I brushed through my hair and put on my hoodie and left. I got a cab and asked for King street. He told me it probably wasn't safe at this time of night, he suggested a hotel, but I said no. Much easier to catch a convict at night. I payed the man and stepped out.
"Give me your money!" A voice behind me growled, the dark man grabbed me around the neck. I was choking, I couldn't get free. I kept struggling, I couldn't breath, gag, choking. I couldn't even scream.
"Put her down!" Was the the last voice I heard before I passed out. I wasn't sure how long I was under, but I was suddenly being carried. The arms were warm, soft, I wasn't going to move, too happy. I fell back asleep, being warn out from being choked.
I woke up in a bed with a warm blanket and an ice pack on my head. "Gah" I screamed as I woke up with a pounding head ache, staring my savor in the eyes. He was lounged on a chair right next to me.
"Are you alright?" He asked, "You hit your head pretty hard when he dropped you. So what were you doing on Kings street at this time of night?" I wasn't really paying attention to what he was saying. I was so distracted by what he looked like. He was tall, and so muscular. He was hot. He had spiky black hair, and the darkest eyes. They were darker than brown, but still brown. Black with brown highlights. His place was dark. I looked like a bachelor pad, it had a round bed. Yes, a round bed, like in the bond movies. I was laying in it, it had dark red sheets. There was a pool table and posters of, I wasn't sure what they were. He noticed me looking around. "You play pool?"
"Uh, not really, I was just, never mind, where am I?" I asked.
"My apartment," He said.
"Yeah, I got that but where exactly?" I asked, cocking my head to the side.
"Couple blocks off King," He said, "Hey do need something to drink you look kinda sick?"
"Um, sure some water please," I said.
"Okay, I'll be right back" He said, he left the room. I got up and saw what time it was, 10, in the morning? Uh oh, gotta call my boss. My head was still pounding, I was dizzy too. I grabbed the pool table to hold myself up. What was wrong? I thought. So dizzy, everything around me spun, did he drug me? I thought. My heart was racing, I could hear it pulsating in my ears. "Hey you okay, you don't look good."
"I'm fine, I'm fine, I just need to drink something," I said. I grabbed the water and chugged it. It was cold, so cold it made my head hurt more. How that was possible I do not know. I felt weak again. He was standing in front of me cautious. I fell into his chest, he held me tight, as he carried me to the bed.
"I think we should take you to a doctor or something," He suggested.
"Um, no, I just need something to eat," I said. That was probably it. I was probably having an anorexic problem. Thats what I get. "I don't need you to get me anything I'll just go..."
"Wait, no, not in your condition, I'll get some pizza," He said, he got up and headed for the kitchen. Pizza? I hadn't had pizza since that party before my parents died. I thought if I repeated anything from that night, someone else would die. Pizza? That sounded so good.
"I ordered in, you like pepperoni?" He asked. I loved pepperoni. But, I was too tired to do anything else. I just nodded.
I fell asleep again, but he woke me up when the pizza came. He set it on the bed and shook me lightly.
“Hey sleepy head, you want some pizza?” He asked. I nodded and sat up. He gave me a plate and then a slice of pizza. I took a gentle bit and swallowed.
“You know I never did catch your name,” He said playfully. He then took a bite of his pizza. I didn't know if I should tell him my real name or come up with a fake on the spot.
“I'm Violetta, but you can just call me Vi,” I said. I told him my real name, he deserved that much.
“ I'm Thomas, but you can call me Tommie,” He said heading for his second piece. I wasn't even close to being half way done.
“So, what were you doing on King street at two in the morning?” He asked. I didn't know what to say. Should I tell him?
“I need you to help me,” I said.
“I think I already kinda did that didn't I?” He joked.
“Yes, but do you know a guy named Ice?” I asked, hoping he didn't I didn't want him involved in this.
“Ice. Yes, I know Ice,” He said. He looked worried.
“Do you know where I can find him?” I asked. I wondered how he knew him.
“Yes, but he's a pretty vicious guy, I don't know if I want to take you there,” He worried, he stood up and went to the kitchen. I followed him.
“Tommie, I'm sure I can handle him, trust me I'm a cop,” I said, giving up.
“Wait, are you gonna arrest him?” He asked.
“Hells no, he murdered my parents, or he knows the person who did,” I explained. He was leaning against the counter for support.
“Vi, I'm not gonna take you there. It's too dangerous, he'll hurt you,” He said, grabbing me by the shoulders.
“Tommie, you don't need to worry about me, I deal with these things daily,” I said, shaking out his hands and putting mine on his shoulder.
“No, I'm not telling you it's too dangerous. I gotta go to work, I'll see you when I get back,” he said. He was obviously done with this conversation. He grabbed his jacket and headed for the door. When he reached it he turned his heel, “Please stay out of trouble, I beg you, I don't want to have to come looking for you. Bye.” He said and he walked out the door.
Ha, like I was gonna stay. Wow! He honestly thought I was gonna stay. Stupid. I went to fine paper and a pen to leave him a note.
Dear Tommie,
I went out to find him.
B back soon,
Vi
I left the note on the fridge, and went out the door. I walked King street alone, when finally I find a man who probably knew where Ice would be.
“Hey pretty lady,” He said.
“Hi. Do you know where I can find Ice?” I asked, flirting.
“Right this way,” He said, as he motioned for me to follow him. He stopped at a trashcan and opened. I thought it was a joke, but he lifted me right up and dropped me in. I fell for fifteen feet before I saw the ground coming towards me. I braced my legs to absorb the impact. I landed soft and quiet. It was dark and tunnel like down here. I was under ground in a drippy sewer. There was puddles of water around, but I wasn't getting soaked.
I turned the corner, and saw a chair. It was made of stone and facing the other way. There was a man in the chair, tapping his fingers against the arm rest. I tiptoed quietly around him and stared him right in the face. I was instantly shocked. His faced was covered in scars. One coming down from his eye, and another pulling up on his mouth to make him have an evil grin.
“May I help you?” He asked, playfully.
“You know who killed my parents don't you?” I said. Confident.
“Oh, yes, quite well too,” He said getting up and pouring himself a martini.
“You killed them didn't you,” I said, keeping my footing. I looked so weak from the outside. I was wet and tired.
“No, not me,” He said taking a sip before I charged at him. I threw him on the ground and starting punching him in the face.
“You bastard, you lie!!” I screamed.
“Stop, stop stop stop!!” He yelped.
“You killed them didn't you? Didn't you?”I screamed at him.
“I did not! But I know who did!” He pleaded.
“Who? Who? WHO????” I screamed, I was way patience.
“Tommie! Tommie did it!” He screamed.
“What?” I said, so quietly I wondered if he heard me. I got off him and he scrambled to his feet.
He stood up, blood pouring down his face.
“What are you doing?” A voice screamed. Tommie looked at me. He tried to come closer to me, but I kept scooting away.
“Tell her you did it Tommie! Tell her!” Ice, screamed.
“Vi?” He said.
“Get away from me,” I said. I stood up and started running. BOOM! I felt a stabbing pain in my lower back, I dropped to my knees. I put my hand to my back and saw blood.
“Violetta!!!” Tommie screamed. Everything was going black. The rest of my body fell to the ground. I found peace, for once in my life I was happy. My pain seemed to be coming to an end. Maybe I could see my parents again. This was it, I was dying. Peace, and light.
Tommie laid the lilacs on my parents grave. It was nice of him to do that. He grabbed my hand and leaned into me. After countless apologetics to my hospital room, he finally gave one to my parents. He said he was sorry like a gazillion times and I forgave him. He took away my parents, but he gave me him.
“They're beautiful, thanks,” I said.
“It's the least I can do,” He said.
“Well I know one more thing you can do,” I said, and I tiptoed up to give a kiss. He kissed me back, and I was in my own little heaven.
The end.
