I live inside your closet

Or under your bed

You can try to catch me

But I don’t believe you can.

I’m multiple, although I’m one,

I’m a nightmare, that terrible dream,

I’m a shadow, a weak light,

I’m the scream that broke through the night

I’m a gambler, I’m a gamer,

You can try to catch me

But I don’t believe you can.

“Who’s there?” you will ask

And you will turn,

And you will listen,

And no one you will see.

But I’m there, and you know I’m there.

You can try to catch me

But I don’t believe you can.

For thousands of years I have been living,

Inside your heads, inside your fears.

In your fathers’ mouth I have been born,

In your world’s myths I have been living.

Believe in me, that I do exist,

Believe in me, that I will survive.

Forget me, don’t believe, and dead I will be.

I’m a shadow, a bad dream,

I’m that teddy bear at night.

I’m the wind, I’m the rain,

I’m your irrational fear.

I’m a gambler, I’m a scream,

You can try to catch me

But I don’t believe you can.
