Watching You

There is this one girl in our class. Her name is Mika, she’s pretty simple, I guess. My first impression of her is she’s timid and owns a boring life. She has glossy dark hair, flat down on her head to her shoulder. She’s wearing this blue-framed glasses, she looks geeky and not really beautiful. Those huge dark blue eyes always scare the heck out of me, every time our eyes meet. I always thought that I would date every last girl in this campus, except for her. My friends are always making fun of her and I bet the girls in our class too. Compared to the girls in our class, she’ll stand out the most since she is not pretty and sexy unlike the other girls.

She’s alone most of the time, she doesn’t like fitting in crowded places, I suspect. Because, she’s always avoiding recess and lunch break and prefers to stay alone in the classroom. I know, cause I saw her the other day eating alone, reading her thick pocketbook as always. I ignored her after that. My friends passed by and they saw her too, and they burst into laughter.

I also saw her in the mall last weekend; she does not have a really good sense of fashion actually. She was wearing this brown plain and boring knee length dress. I don’t know much about girl’s fashion but that dress she was wearing is just ugly, doesn’t look good on her at all. And from a far, my friends are laughing the hell out of themselves.

I met her at my favorite restaurant last Monday sitting in one table next to a window. I sat down on a chair far from her, just to avoid her seeing me. I ordered one mango juice in the guy in front of me. As I wait, I’m glancing at her who was at my far right. She was wearing black plain knee length dress, reading the same thick pocketbook, a coffee on her table and heart-shaped biscuits next to it. The fat waiter placed my mango juice in front of me. I took a quick sip at it and looked back at her; she was smiling while she’s reading the book. I don’t really know what kind of pocketbook that was. In was interesting, the raise of the sun was being absorbed by her black dress. Her hair gave that really glossy look. And her smile is the most interesting of them all.

In the locker area, I saw her having difficulty opening her locker. It’s funny how she pulls the door of her locker, with a worried face. I was about to walk towards her and offer my strength it but I saw my friends and some girls from my class hiding inside the laboratory room. Peeking and making fun of Mika, who was worried about her locker. They saw me, and this girl placed her pointy finger on her lips, a sign of ‘be quite’, they were having so much fun watching her pulling the door of her locker. I ignored them and just left.

Our class had this running practice a month ago. We run like five laps for the first round. I went to the water fountain not far from the field after the long run, I saw my friends whispering and chuckling. I drank at the line-free fountain and heard them talking about Mika wearing her P.E. uniform. They started talking perverted stuffs with her name attached to it. I wiped the sweat off my face and left. When I went back to do another lap with the rest of the class, I heard this tumbling sound at my back. When I turned around, saw Mika on the ground, and the girls surrounds her holding her glasses above her. She was helplessly trying to stand up as she slides her hands on the ground trying to look for her glasses. The girls were laughing and were swaying her glasses, being passed to one another through throwing. I saw our P.E. teacher run pass by me and helped Mika stand up and scolded the crazy girls. I left and did one lap.

I pity her so much. Seeing her alone most of the time, gives me the chills. Seeing her being bullied by my friends, I pity her for that. But, I couldn’t help her; I don’t want to get involved. I was just watching her, from a far. I wonder why? Sorry that I couldn’t help you out. If I did, they might do the same things with me. I’m a coward, aren’t I. But, even just watching you, I like everything now. I like your glossy black hair, I like the classroom you’re staying in, I like the book that you’re reading, I like places you like, I like the dresses you’re wearing, I like your locker, I like your glasses, I like your PE uniform, I like the field you’re running on, I like the paths you walk on, I like your smile. I hated you, you were ugly, but, to me, liking you makes you beautiful.
