Chapter One – Chad

My parents, often called ‘the evil ones’, had been looking at houses for a while. They’d wanted to move for a long time. The only thing that had been stopping them for the past six years was me, their darling daughter and only child. So yes, they catered to my every need, well, at least most of the time.

Moving wasn’t necessarily something on my to do list, but neither was going through a rough break up with my long time boyfriend, (six years to be exact) Chad Crawford. Stupid jerk. So what happened was that Chad had graduated last year, and I was a senior now, he was in a band, and wanted to leave me so he could focus full time on his band and tour, be a rock star like he’d always dreamed. The sad part was that for the past six years, he told me I’d live that dream with him,

Chad had acted like he was only breaking up with me because he didn’t want us to hold each other back, and that if by the time I had graduated I wasn’t with someone else and if he wasn’t with someone else he’d come back to me.

I really didn’t want to believe that Chad was being truthful, but Chad was a bad liar, and when he told me, there wasn’t really any hint of a lie.

Anyways, he’d told me he loved me, kissed me one last time, informed me, that he’d be leaving in a week to start his bands tour and that the tour would be over in May, it was December. That was a long tour… but considering, that the band was hardly known and had no money, it’d probably take a while for them to get some cash and all that, so what ever, you know? His loss, and besides, he’d come back for me right? I was the irreplaceable Avery. Or at least I hoped I was.

But after my parents found out what happened from my aunt, who had found out from my cousin, who stabbed me in the back cause she promised not to tell, I’d wanted to tell them I broke up with him, but no, miss Alicia had a big yap.

It was fine though, because the only reason I hadn’t wanted to move was because of Chad, so for six years I fought my parents so I could be with him, look how far that got me.

A week after Chad had broken up with me, my parents had come home all bubbly and informed me of their oh-so wonderful news.

“Honey, we’ve decided that you need a new start, you know, to get over Chad.” My mother said as she sat me down on the couch.

“Chad, shmad.” I said crossing my arms.

My dad gently touched my arm. I hate everyone in my freaking life, they freaking touch my like I’m about to break at any second, I’m not a porcelain doll, I’m a freaking human being, thank you very much!

“Sweetheart, I know you’re acting like you aren’t upset over this, but honey we know you are, you cried yourself to sleep yesterday…” he said.

Damn it.

“We know how much you love Chad, sweetie, but it was bound to happen, he’s a free spirit, so it’s time for you to get yours back.” My mom stroked my hair gently. Again with the gentleness….

“Okay, so?” I asked, why the hell were they being so vague?

“So we have a surprise for you.” My dad told me with his charming smile.

“Is it a puppy?” I asked brightly. My dog, chuckles had died recently, I’d been longing for a new one badly.

My dad laughed, “no sweetie, but we can get you a new one if you’d like.”

“Well, I’d like one.” I said with finality.

My dad laughed again, “Alright honey, but you’re mom and I have something to tell you.”

“get on with it already, that’s what I’ve been waiting for.” I told them and leaned back against the cushions of the couch.

“We’re moving.” My mom said.

“What?”

“We’re moving.” My dad repeated her.

“You’ve got to be shitting me.” I said with my jaw open wide.

“Language Avery.” My dad said sternly. That was one thing they didn’t like about Chad, he cussed like a sailor. But really, I loved everything about him.

“Fine jeez.” I shook my head, “that’s messed up though.”

“Avery, don’t make this a bad thing, it could be a whole new start. A whole new you!” My mom gushed.

“Jeez whiz! Wow mom!” sarcasm seeping in my poison filled voice.

My mom sighed and stood up from where she was sitting next to me, “Avery, you can make this into what ever kind of situation you want to, but you have no say in the matter, you aren’t eighteen yet, so until then, you’re coming with us.”

“Okie dokie artichoke-y.”

My parents began to leave the room, “I want a puppy!” I called after them.

“I want you to fix your attitude!” my dad shot back.

Jeez, what meanies.
