stomach in knots
at the thought of your fate,
anxiety spikes
as i search for your name.

my friend of the night,
you were always right there,
to lend me a hand,
to send up a prayer.

so where have you gone
on the eve of my return?

did you think i was forever
lost to the world?

i was sure that i'd grown up
and left this behind,
but my mind works in rhythm,
my soul breathes in ryhme.

o friend of the night
did your waiting grow old?
was it in that downtime
that your heart tried to fold?

did you think i'd forgotten
your beautiful words?

if you knew how i missed you
would you come back in full?

now i hope that you're living.
and i hope that you're fine.
i still hope that your life's full
of rhythm and rhyme;

that your heart and your mind
still dwells on earths beauty,
and your ears fill with tunes
of jazz, and blues music.

and where ever you are now,
be it life, or it death,

i hope that you're happy.
peaceful, if at rest.

For in all of the time
in which we knew each other,
that's all you gave me
or just all i remember...
