the city weeps
with its glitter-sparkle eyes pouring down
electrical current --
silver syrup tears in thick streams
to spark uselessly against a black hole pavement
sheened and slick with the sobs of a herded crowd,
the monotone thud of shoes pounds against concrete.
the city weeps
with her sentinel beings curved over the street
casting hungry night shadows that gobble and douse
even when elsewhere
the sky is swollen with day and bleeding sunlight.
people are holding their arms towards the rooftops,
heads cast back and eyes wide and searching,
palms upturned and they're waiting to catch
the sparkling firefly tears that
the city weeps.
it's weeping, weeping,
and there's the steady thrum of heaving chests
and the city moves like a locust horde and i
blink-blink, slow movements and burning eyes.
they're dating clenching throats and aching hearts
and feet feel like lead against a slick black ice road
that churns beneath uncertain soles (souls).
and the city weeps
the echoing chirp of her sobs circling wild
in my throat and i sing along with the feverish song.
and i never thought that while a baleful wind
whipped my hair into a salt-sea mess,
the city crying and moaning all around me
and the cave of my heart collapsing,
that all i would miss is your smile.
