They Paved Utopia

They paved Utopia,

And put up a parking lot with a grey dance hall

A giant hotel, and an oval mall.

They took all them things that are green,

And placed them in a museum,

They charged 10.50 for youth, just to see ‘em.

They took all of nature,

And placed it in towers; locked it away,

Asked for people to imagine; in dreams that won’t decay.

They paved Utopia,

And put up a skyscraper with a big glass floor,

A long bridge, and a liquor store.

They took all the animals,

And put ‘em in a coliseum

Asked for bloodshed, as a price to view ’em.

They took all the people,

And locked them away on the sea,

Asked for infinite dollars just to set them free.

They paved Utopia,

And put up a colourless jail

A paper town, and train rail.

They took the whole world,

And erased all the glow,

Asked for domination for there just to be snow.

They paved Utopia,

Didn’t realize the world was too much,

They asked for a bigger grasp so their finger could touch.

They paved Utopia

And played with flame,

Their fingers were burned for the world cannot be tame.

They paved Utopia.
