Beaming through the windows,
sunlight does distract –
I see you walking.
Our eyes connect (euphoria).
Just a moment, though –
A passing, recurring hope.

I realize it’s a mere nothing.
Worthless to hang onto
something as frail as this.
Yet my heart does bleed;
it simply refuses to listen.
As always it yearns –
wears down endurance…

I need to mature a little;
these childhood crushes,
innocent though it seems,
tear apart my being.
Silently you walk on –
to that one person
whom you belong to.

And I will stand here,
ever so still not moving.
You may never know.
Nor do I hope you will.
My secret love (or lust?)
shall be buried deeply
beneath with all the others.

Your life continues fully,
and mine so empty,
as if I never loved you.
While it distracted,
the sun dies down.
With it does my love,
my yearning for you.

This is growing up,
knowing when to give up,
knowing when to let you go.
