"...Katie...," Beth said in a sad, ashamed voice. Underneath that, Katie could hear a begging underlying in it.

"Beth? Where are you? What are you doing?" Katie responded, an edge in her voice, knowing she wouldn’t start a conversation like this unless she was in trouble.

"well um...I'm kinda...ah...at the police station" Beth muttered the last bit, saying it in a quiet rush, as if that would make it any better.

"WHAT? WHY?"

"Heheh... Funny story about that..." Beth responded. In her voice was her blush that was most likely prominent on her cheeks.

"Oh dear god, you were NOT sent in because of stalking that pour guy, where you?"

"Heheh… No, no, something else!”
"OH dear god Beth, what did you doooo?" Katie cried, all hope draining from her voice.

"I invited him to our pizza party!" Beth seemed so proud of this, as if it was normal to invite a total stranger to a slumber party for pizza and cupcakes.

"Beth, what did I tell you?! Don’t invite strangers that aren’t celebrities there! And even then, NO CELEBRITIES!! I leave you alone for one weekend, what happens? YOU FREAKING LAND YOURSELF IN JAIL!!" Katie practically shouted.

"Wait, no celebrities? shit..." there is a slight muffling before Katie could hear Beth yelling to someone across the room, "KARA!! WE NEED TO UNINVITE COBRA FROM OUR PIZZA PARTY!!! KATIE SAID WE CAN'T INVITE CELEBRITIES WE DONT PERSONALLY KNOW!!!"

"OH god Beth, what have you been drinking,” Katie asked, running a hand through her hair and trying to figure out how to get Beth out of the mess she had landed herself into.

"Nothing!" Beth said defensively.

“Were you snorting pixie sticks then?” Katie said, feeling like the parent Beth was trying to avoid.

“Maybe…” Beth said, trying to not directly say that she had.

"Oh god, you are NEVER going to be left alone again,” Katie said, walking back and forth across the kitchen. Thank goodness her parents weren’t home.

After a moment of silence, Beth said, "Hey Katie..."

"whaaat?" Katie said in a tired voice. It was clear Beth had used up all of her energy with what she had done.

"Can you kinda pay bail? My mom and dad...well...they don’t REALLY need to know about this, now do they?"

"Dammit beth, why me? Why must you put this on my shoulders?” Katie said, begging Beth for an answer that made sense. When she didn’t get one, and she realized why her parents didn’t have to know this, Katie said, “How much?"

“um...it's kinda...seven hundred..." Beth said, silently, knowing her chances were slim, and praying Katie would pay. As fun as it was to get to hang out with Christopher, and really all of her favorite celebrities, she didn’t really like being in Jail.

"seven…seven...seven hundred DOLLARS?!?! Fuck Beth you know I don’t have that kind of money!!"

"But but but,” Beth said, begging with all her might.

"No buts!! And how the hell would I get it down to you?" Katie said, completely pissed off.

"Send it in the mail?"

After a moment where Katie took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, she finally said, "Let me get this straight, you want me so send seven hundred dollars that I don’t even have in an envelope down to you as your bail?"

"Yep!" Beth said excitedly, hoping that Katie was turning around and would send the money to her. It also made clear to Katie how many pixie sticks she had snorted
"Oh my god beth, could you think for one second?" Katie begged, trying to put some reason into the girls head.

"Okay! Thinking cap ON!" Beth said, and Katie could practically see Beth putting on an invisible hat. If she didn't know better, she'd say Beth was...troubled, to say the least. But Katie had known Beth for a while, and knew that Beth was just being...well, Beth. She was being her usual, hyper self after meeting way too many celebrities.

After a moment of silence, Katie said in a defeated, resigned voice, "I'll drive down to you with the money. You owe me every single sent the second you get back, along with gas. I will be driving you back to the hotel room and I will be taking your place in bamboozle, got it? No. exceptions." Katie knew she was getting the better deal out of this; after all, she was going to be able to go to Beth's last day of bamboozle, something she hadn’t even planned, even though she was forced to take out seven hundred dollars from her savings account that was strictly for college. All the money would be paid, but she guessed that for driving the six or so long hours down to her, it would be worth it, at least for gas. Plus, for not telling her parents alone, Beth owed Katie big.

"WHAT?" Beth screamed. Katie could hear the chair Beth must have been sitting on fall down. She could also hear Kara in the background, probably asking what had gotten Beth so angry so fast.

"Take it or leave it, that’s the only deal I'm making," Katie replied, grabbing her car keys and heading out the door. She knew Beth would take it; the girl didn't have anyone else to call who wouldn’t also tell her parents.

That was the thing between Katie and Beth, if one of them was in trouble, the other would also help them get out of it, without telling either parents. It was a system that they frequently used, and frequently pushed the limits of, but it worked. They always had someone to call on if they were in trouble, a shoulder to cry on, someone to hold them back from punching a bitch in the face. It worked, and it was their friendship.

"...fine," Beth said begrudgingly, thinking of their unspoken deals, and knowing no one else would do the same. Not like she could do anything about it. And with that, Katie was off to the bank, then to save her best friend’s ass from the police, and from her parents.
