A poem I wrote October 14th 2008, inspired by a kid named Chad in my Geometry class, who asked the teacher if he was allowed to stand.

I stand.
I stand for the lonely.
I stand for the small.
I stand for the quiet,
And I stand tall.
I stand for the careful.
I stand for the honest.
I stand for the followers,
And for the modest.
I stand for the needy.
I stand for the poor.
I stand for less,
And I stand for more.
I stand for the women.
I stand for the men.
I stand for the hopes
And lives of children.
I stand for dreams.
I stand for goals.
I stand for bodies,
And I stand for souls.
I stand for courage.
I stand for fears.
I stand for the young
And old of the years.
I stand for the stable.
I stand for the mighty.
I stand for the rest,
No matter how frightening.
I stand for the healthy.
I stand for the ill.
I stand for the moving
And for the still.
I stand for the rebels.
I stand for the cause.
I stand for the hisses,
Boos and applause.
I stand for the sight.
I stand for the sound.
I stand for love,
Missing and found.
I stand for the red.
I stand for the blue.
I stand for green,
Purple and brown too.
I stand for the black.
I stand for the white.
I stand for the gray,
The dark and the light.
I stand for the deaf.
I stand for the blind.
I stand for reasons
No one can find.
I stand on foot.
I stand at hand.
But, most importantly,
I stand.
