Battle of Huang He (Yellow River)
Action Adventure/Science Fiction/Supernatural/Humor, one shot
This is a story based on a dream I had last night. It takes place far in the future where technology is much more advanced than today.
I felt very confused and frustrated at first. I wasn’t sure if we were on a mission because Leader never explained the situation to me throughout the entire incident. In fact, Leader has neveronce bothered explaining things to me since I joined this organization. However, he was paid a lot of respect by every one of his subordinates, so much that I felt I could trust him with my life. Besides, he was the kind of guy that you feel you could trust. He was the charismatic type of leader. He was nice, casual, laid-back, and funny and he was good looking. He looked almost exactly like Spirit-sempai (Maka’s dad) from Soul Eater, except that he had brown hair and brown eyes.
I sat in a trailer which was pulled by what looked like a military truck. Leader was sitting next to me, but he had stood up to speak with another one of his subordinates, a muscular guy. Unfortunately, I couldn’t hear what they were discussing. But I did hear the muscular guy respond with a very respectful, “Yes, Sir!” before he went back to guarding on top of the military truck. After that, Leader turned to look at me and suddenly he looked much more serious than his usual self. Then, I understood that something was up.
Soon, we were attacked by several white buses which turned out to be our enemies. They started chasing us and kept shooting at us. We tried to get away from them as fast as possible, but they were hot on our heels. Leader had moved to the front of the military truck, possibly giving direction commands to our driver, which left me the only person on the trailer and guarding our rear. I was panicking a little and felt that I needed to do something to help the situation. There were two or three guns lying near my feet. I picked up a smoke gun and shot once at our enemy vehicles, creating a large purple smoke clouding the road behind us, efficiently slowing them down. However, later they were somehow able to catch up with us again. I barely managed to distract and hold them off with three shots of my smoke gun. This time, I said to my comrades, “Move it! They’re on our tail!” Meanwhile, I was beginning to be aware of a sudden growing sharp pain in my waist.
Later, we finally arrived at our base camp located near the bank of Huang He (or Yellow River) in China. I found myself being put in a room, on a bed with bandages around my waist. Leader sat on a chair next to the bed looking at me with a concerned face. I recalled my past as an orphan living in a world in which countries were always at war with each other. During my teenage years, I was recruited by my current organization and I’ve been working for it since then.
Things happened so fast after that. I didn’t even have time to react to most of the events that followed. First, Leader was betrayed by one of his most capable subordinates. Second, the traitor came back to attack us with an invincible flying aircraft. Bombs were dropped onto our base camp. My comrades ran around trying to dodge the bombs while retaliate by shooting at the aircraft. I saw a guy keel over and die. For a moment, I was dumbfounded because I thought that it was Leader who died. I was ready to give up hope when suddenly Leader appeared without a scratch in the middle of all the chaos. I felt a sense of relief, but it didn’t last long as the devil aircraft began to head straight towards him. I was overwhelmed by the feeling of dread and panic when out of nowhere, I heard a voice calling to me.
“DOLORES!” it shouted loudly.
Strangely, I understood what the voice was telling me to do. I looked at the Yellow River which had begun to agitate, and then I saw myself transformed into a river spirit in the form of a crystal blue dragon. The enormous dragon roared, causing the aircraft to malfunction and finally explode.
The safety of our base camp was secured and I couldn’t have felt more relieved. Later, Leader picked me up from the ground and carried me to safety. My hair was now extremely long and the color of crystal blue. As soon as I recovered myself, Leader put me on the ground so that I could walk on my own. I could tell that Leader was in a very good mood. He glanced up at the sky and said something along the lines of “night will never fall on us again.” I thought he was funny because one, it was the first time he had ever spoken to me, and two, I looked up and saw that it was night and the moon was big and beautiful.
