Sleep

5/4/00

As the sun melts into the earth,

Sleep gets ready to embrace the world.

It awaits in my closet,

Among the darkest corner,

For the night to deposit

Into my bedroom.

I lie in my bed,

Exhausted and weary;

I lay back my head,

Heavy and dreary.

Then I breath in deep,

And wait patiently

For sleep to find me.

But it doesn't.

Sleep has been acquainted with the night,

And has forgotten all about me.

Though when it remembers,

I am not to be found.

Guided by the dim embers,

Searching on the ground.

Sleep has gotten lost in the darkness.

As dawn slowly approaches,

Sleep finds me

And touches my mind.

Then simultaneously,

The voices call to wake me up.
