Boy

That cigarette break left a sea change in its wake
And your words have all been tailored to fit you
I will try too hard to give after I take
And then I'll leave, but I won't forget you

I know that your stare is always focused there
Where your past and my future will leave me
Your fairy fingers are spinning in my hair
And your lighting all the candles to please me

So my Cheshire grin is starting to wear thin
And my honesty won't allow me to fool you
I pray to your warm hands to absolve me of a sin
Since I had an evil notion to cool you

Because I've grown cold and you don't know this is gold
I see now you can't really understand me
But the heart you've got is young while mine is much too old
So I'm grateful that it's something you'd grant me
