Chapter 4: New Home, New Drama
Biting cold wind forced Bobby’s eyes to squint as he trudged through the Alaskan landscape. He bent his head forward, the sting from the wind momentarily eased as he pulled the hood of his sweatshirt back over his ears. The cold of the state had no effect on him but the wind was starting to tick him off. Growling, he pulled a pair of snow goggled out of his backpack and pulled them on. He was already running late for his meeting with the bloodsucker named Michael because Lithia had found it funny to torture him before he left his holding cell. A smirk played across his face at the anger Draco had shown his sister after that stunt and he quickened his walk into a steady jog toward the snowed in shack where he could smell Michael was waiting.
“You’re late,” the smooth voice of the vampire washed over him as he shoved the shack door open and trudged inside, kicking the snow from his boots and glaring at the vampire seated in a dusty red velvet chair by a flickering fireplace.
Snorting, Bobby ignored him and yanked off his sweatshirt, tossing it over a rotting wood chair in the tiny dining room. He stopped just inside the shack and crossed his arms over his chest as he waited for Michael to get to why he asked the Council for him to show up in this annoyingly windy wilderness.
“Did you find this little place easily?” Michael asked casually, still refusing to face Bobby who stood a few steps behind the chair.
“Of course, it smelled terrible, you know you vamps smell worse than curdled milk,” Bobby replied sarcastically with a wrinkle of his now sensitive nose.
A chuckled erupted from Michael’s throat and he slowly rose to his feet his long fingers brushing dust from his neat suit. “I should say the same of you, Robert. Your stench burns my nostrils with every breath I take, forgive me if I seem a bit uncomfortable because of this.”
Bobby growled, “Why am I here?”
“Here begins your assignment to the Council of course,” he shrugged. “The Princes are staying with my coven a few miles away. You will stay here until we give you word that the princes are vulnerable.” With that Michael turned on his heel and made his way toward the door. Furious, Bobby grabbed his arm with a snarl, forcing him to turn around and face him.
“I may be human, but you have no right to treat me as a dog, bloodsucker,” he growled. “Just because you have fangs doesn’t mean I can’t kill you right now. Now tell me exactly what you’re planning to do with Kira and Kelby or so help me I’ll rip your bleeding throat out and force feed it to you.”
A smirk played across Michael’s face at Bobby’s temper and he shrugged his arm form his tight grip, “Relax Robert. Judas will be here in a few days to explain your purpose of being here. I suggest you get comfortable until then.”
This time Michael did leave, Bobby snarling with annoyance as the wind whipped his skin as the door slowly closed. He grabbed the rotting thing and slammed it shut against the snow, resuming Michael’s seat in the chair to calm his now raging temper.
----
“Where are we supposed to hunt in this place? I’m starving,” Aaron groaned as Kelby finished unpacking his things. She shrugged as she hung up his winter jacket before plopping onto the bed beside him. “And why are we confined to separate rooms? I feel like I’m a teenager or something. Are they afraid of our raucous love making?”
Laughing, Kelby rested her head in Aaron’s lap, her fingers entwining with his, “I think they are, they don’t seem to look very romantic. I mean clearly Tanis and Olivia love each other but they don’t look like they get physical very often. They’re like grandparents stuck in young bodies. It’s disturbing.”
Low laughter filled the room, Aaron turning with a glare to the doorway as Michael stepped around the corner to stand in the doorway. Kelby bit her lip at the power emanating from him, her skin tingling as his eyes fell on her. Aaron wrapped an arm protectively around her shoulders as he watched Michael glide over to one of the lounge chairs in the room and take a seat. He folded his hands and crossed his legs, resting them on his knee before speaking.
“If you desire blood, Aaron, you are more than welcome to indulge yourself on the animal life in around this town, however, Judas and I will have to ask you to refrain from hunting what little human population we have for fear of disturbing the peace.” His cold eyes shifted to Aaron who glared right back, his jaw taught.
“Fine.”
Nodding, Michael’s gaze returned to Kelby who shivered and Aaron’s glare deepened, his body stiff with annoyance as he watched Michael study his girlfriend.
“As for you, Miss…?”
“White,” Kelby answered and Michael smiled.
“Yes, Miss White, the women drink a synthetic blood we ship from the Japanese. They’ve perfected their art of cloning a bit more than the United States and created a nutritious blood that keeps our women healthy and their thirst curbed. We keep al blood types in the cellar if you’d like to indulge.”
Looking disgusted, Kelby stood up and crossed her arms over her chest, “And why can’t I go hunting like Chase and Aaron? I don’t want some nasty fake crack blood!”
Unwavering, Michael kept his gaze level and his tone calm as Kelby glared at him in annoyance. The corner of his mouth twitched with the shadows of a smile before all traces of amusement disappeared and his face returned to its stone mask of calm.
“We find the thought of women hunting to be repulsive. You should all be refined and well groomed; hunting makes vampire women wild and often unruly. So if you wouldn’t mind, Miss White, you and Miss Snipes will quench your thirst with the synthetic blood Olivia and Emilie have survived on for nearly a decade.”
Her eyes flashing mutiny, Kelby snarled at him as Michael rose to leave the room. He bent in front of her, taking her hand and pulling it to his lips before nodding curtly to Aaron and making his way smoothly to the door. Kelby grumbled under her breath, Michael catching “if you want unruly I’ll show you unruly,” as he left the room. He let the smirk he’d been struggling to hide cross his face and let out a low chuckle as he made his way to the study where he knew Judas would be waiting.

A sigh rushed from Kira’s mouth as she stared longingly at the swirling snow outside her bedroom window. She traced a finger where her breath should have fogged the glass and groaned, missing how she used to trace faces in the fog until it faded away. She turned her back to the window, her eyes falling on Chase who leaned across the room from her against the door frame.
“I miss that simple pleasure as well,” he muttered, moving into the room. Kira closed her eyes as his hands moved up her arms. She smiled as he pulled her close, giving her a squeeze before letting her go. “You’ll get used to being a vampire, I promise.”
Nodding, Kira turned back to the window to watch the snow. She sighed again, her heart sinking at the thought of how unnecessary breathing was and yet she still did it out of habit. She leaned back as Chase encircled her in his arms, his chin resting on the top of her head. She wanted to feel warmth at his touch but all she could feel was cold. Her body was cold, Chase’s felt just the same. She needed human life, the fire of not knowing when she was going to die.
“I miss my family,” she finally broke the silence. “I miss everything about being human, the warmth of human flesh, that embarrassing blush that used to constantly fill my face. I miss the heat and passion of something so simple as a first kiss. I can’t have that as a vampire, Chase. I want it back.”
“I know,” he pressed his lips to her earlobe. She used to shiver every time he did that from the chill of his temperature against hers. He also missed her humanity, his own humanity, but he couldn’t dwell on that for without being a vampire he never would have met her. “But you are vampire now, and you must embrace the new experiences and gifts that it brings. You may not have thrill in living anymore but there is thrill in things like the hunt and finding a companion you can spend eternity with.”
Sighing again, Kira returned her gaze to the window, her eyes drifting toward the town the mansion sat just outside of. A few children were outside playing in the street, a snowman half built and snowballs flying every which way. She felt tears prick her eyes as the weight of being a vampire hit her. Her mouth dropped open and she pressed her hand to her mouth to stifle a sob.
“I’ll never be able to have kids.”
---
Judas clicked the end of his pen against one of the many oak desks in the study where he awaited the arrival of his brother. Tilting his head back against the leather chair he twisted his hips to rock it back and forth to try and occupy his boredom. He’d been waiting for over an hour to hear any word from Michael or the women about the arrival of their guest, the newly created werewolf, Robert. Licking his lips, Judas let his mind wander, thoughts drifted through his mind from Kelby and Olivia. He smirked when his mind drifted toward Kira. She was distraught about being a vampire, her thoughts dark and filled with morose about humanity. He chuckled at her typical reaction as a new vampire and closed his mind to everyone, pulling the door open as he sensed his brother’s presence in the hall.
“I hope you know spying won’t get her in your pocket, Judas,” Michael flicked a strand of hair from his face and sat down across from him.
Scoffing, Judas rolled his eyes, “What I do with my spare time has nothing to do with the situation at hand.”
“She has everything to do with this, Judas, so stop playing coy and get your head on straight,” Michael snapped, his cool demeanor disappearing with frustration. His eyes shot fire for a split second before returning to normal, his cool returning as quick as it had disappeared. A moment of tense silence filled the room, Judas still rocking in his chair with impatience. Michael smirked, dragging the moment on for as long as he could until Judas finally burst out in annoyance.
“Well? What news of the wolf?” he demanded, leaning forward to rest his elbows on the desk.
“He’s here and taking up residence in the cabin we’ve been keeping along the south end of our estate. He’s not very pleased with the state of it, but he’ll stay. He’s expecting you within the next few days so don’t make him wait. His blood is fresh so he is already a lit fuse,” Michael replied with ease, his eyes remaining cold and calculating as he watched his overzealous brother fill with excitement.
“Good, I’ll see him immediately. I trust you can hold it down here while I’m gone,” Judas nodded and stood up, adjusting the cufflinks on his dress shirt.
“Of course.”
With a small gust of wind Judas disappeared from the room, pushing a few strands of long hair from Michael’s neat ponytail. Sighing, the older man pushed them out of his face and closed his eyes, centering his concentration on the inhabitants of the household. Aaron was in the woods along the borders of the estate hunting with Chase while Kira sat in the library reading. He had to fight a smirk at the overwhelming emotions flowing from her, most of them confusion and fear as she turned a page of her book. Emilie and Olivia were in their respective rooms while Kelby wandered around the kitchens consumed with thirst. Weighing his options, Michael ignored the fact that Tanis had gone missing and opted to go to the library to figure out what was so vexing Kira.
When he entered the room the youngest of the vampires in the house looked up from her reading, her eyes wide at the sight of him. Kira closed her book and pressed it against her chest as Michael sat down beside her.
“I couldn’t help but notice the power of your emotions, Kira, may I implore as to what they’re about?” Michael asked politely as he rested his hand on the arm of her chair.
Kira’s eyes drifted to his hand, her entire body freezing up as she admired his long fingers. She had to fight a shiver at the thought of that hand running up her arm and she gulped mentally kicking herself for even thinking such a thing. Michael raised his eyebrows at the extended silence and she chuckled nervously, hugging the book closer to her chest.
“I’m just worried is all,” she stammered, struggling to keep her thoughts coherent. All she could see was Michael on top of her half naked licking blood from her neck and it made her extremely uncomfortable.
“I sense much more than that, my dear,” he inched a little closer to her and she backed away instinctively. Kira found herself staring into his swirling silver eyes and got lost, she felt her mind slipping as she stared, Michael’s obvious mental pull affecting her more than Judas had ever dared to try. She felt him siphon through her mind, trying to pick out her visions when she finally came to her senses with a gasp.
“Get out of my head!” she yelped, Michael’s clear vision of her thoughts instantly going black as she forced him out. He stared at her in surprise as she glared daggers at him.
“No one has ever blocked me so quickly and so efficiently,” he muttered in wonder, trying to penetrate her wall with no success.
“Well get used to it, bucko, because you’re never getting in this head again,” Kira shot and stood up. “I don’t know what you two are playing at but you can’t just wander into my head without getting in trouble. If I want you to know something I’ll tell you! What I’m thinking stay in my head!”
Reveling in Kira’s annoyance, Michael smirked, standing up as well. He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder and flashed a handsome smile, “I apologize for my intrusion, Kira. It won’t happen again.”
“It better not,” she growled, her teeth clenched as she fought to keep her knees from buckling at the feel of this man’s hands on her. What was wrong with her? Why did this man have so much sexual pull over her. Every time she saw him or his brother all she wanted to do was rip their clothes off and fuck them blind. Her fear tripled at the thought of being unfaithful to Chase and she tried to scatter her thoughts as quick as possible.
Grinning, Michael leaned close to her face, his cheek pressed gently against hers as his breath fluttered over her ear, “Don’t fear the lust within you, Kira. It’s only natural for vampires to have an increased sex drive. I don’t think Chase would mind anyway,” he brushed her hair off her shoulder with a finger and she shivered. Kira’s eyes drifted closed as his finger ran the length of her back, his breath still caressing the side of her face. The block in her head lifted ever so slightly as Michael pressed his hand against the small of her back and he could see the rush of images his presence wrought upon her. He couldn’t stop the rush of lust at the creative ways Kira wanted him and without thinking he pressed his lips to the line of her jaw. Her breath rushed out in surprise followed quickly by a moan as Michael’s fangs pricked the side of her neck with each kiss.
“Michael stop,” Kira gasped, her hands pressing lightly to his chest as he ravaged her throat with his lips. Instead of stopping her crashed his mouth to hers and lifted her up with his free arm. Before Kira knew it she had her back slammed against the far wall of the library, artfully hidden behind the stacks of books. “No, Michael!”
He ignored her, the fantasies flowing from Kira’s mind driving him crazy with lust. Her hands gripped his shoulders as he kissed her, her thighs flexing against his hips as he clawed at her jeans. He had never felt so stimulated since he was human, the powerful feelings flowing from Kira overwhelming him as she gasped for him to stop.
“Please,” she begged weakly as he popped the button and slid the zipper down. “Michael stop it.”
“I can’t,” he gasped. “I won’t.”
Mustering all the strength she could to bring herself back to her senses, Kira dug her nails into his shoulders and shoved him away, her mental block solidifying once again and pulling Michael from her lust filled fantasies. Both stood breathing heavily, clothes ruffled as the intense moment lifted and Kira smoothed her hands down the front of her shirt.
“Never speak of this to anyone,” she breathed, her eyes still dark with desire.
Michael nodded, “I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me. It will never happen again.”
“It better not,” the furious voice of Chase startled the both of them and Michael whipped around to see the prince lumbering toward him looking lethal.
“Chase, wait, stop!” Kira screeched as Chase grabbed Michael by the throat and slammed him against the wall. The shelves of the library began to quake with Chase’s fury, books falling onto the floor as the tremors increased.
“If you ever lay a finger on Kira gain I’ll wipe out your existence with barely a thought,” Chase snarled as Kira sunk to the floor, her hands over her head as books pelted from the shelves. Tears streamed down her cheeks as the gravity of the situation hit her and a sob escaped her as Chase let Michael go. The moment he was gone everything stopped and he knelt down beside his girlfriend who rocked back and forth on the floor, her hands over her head, sobbing.
“I’m so sorry,” she repeated as he lifted her into his arms. “So sorry.”
“Shh, Kira,” he muttered, still furious as he carried her to his room. “Everything is fine now.”
“No it’s not,” she sobbed. “You should kill me for being such a slut.”
Chase sighed as he lowered her onto his bed and drew the covers up over her, “I’m not going to kill you.”
“The most you could do is hate me a little, Chase,” she groaned. “I wanted him to touch me! Why would I want that? What’s wrong with me?”
Clenching his jaw, Chase glared at the sobbing mass on his bed. Fury licked at his insides for a split second before he eased the fire down and sat beside his girlfriend. He refused to touch her but he knew his presence enough would sooth her. After a while her movement stopped, the sobs turning into barely noticeable breathing as she sank into a deep sleep. Chase made sure she was completely unconscious before moving to the door, the murderous rage inside him bursting back to the surface. Now he had some business to finish with Michael.
Thanks!
