Fragments
A/N: I’ll probably never finish these. But I’m quite fond of them. A short couplet and scraps of a poem scrawled down on little bits of paper during a long car journey. (I also scrawled ‘help me, I’ve been kidnapped’ in the condensation on the window and then lay out pretending to be dead in the back seat of the cat. My parents wondered why we got so many concerned looks.) And in case you ask, no. No, I don’t know what these little bits and pieces mean.
If they mean anything.
Enjoy.
Gaze out of your window- it’s a pitch-black morning.
A new age, a new day, a new order is dawning.
My darling, my dearest, it seems tonight is our last night,
The jig is up, the battle’s done.
They’ll come for us traitors at dawn’s first light,
At the rising of the sun.
I regret not a thing of all that we had,
Even now the end is nigh.
Once we’re dead they’ll say that we were mad,
But my heart, I could not deny.
So entangled in love, for the laws I didn’t care,
But for a forbidden love, they’ll make us pay.
Our bones shall splinter and our skin shall tear,
Even our love cannot find a way.
You cling to me and sob and weep,
But dearest I do not lie.
This is the lot our love must reap,
We both are doomed to die.
As they drag us out, perhaps I should wish,
That we should be free from all this hate.
Our bodies are broken and our minds are finished,
But know that more still remain.
Our numbers perhaps, are slightly diminished,
But soon we shall rule your domain.
Freedom will find a way.
