Prologue
Summary: He brought me death. An unknown face with an unknown name, he haunted my dreams...I was perfectly content to never meet him, but then he came strolling into town, looking for someone, and danger followed right behind.

All my life I strived to be normal; but as the only daughter of Genevieve Hathaway my name preceded me. I learnt early on in life how to stand up for myself; when you’re the kid in the playground whose mother is the infamous Fortune-teller in town, things were never going to be easy. Little kids could be cruel and when you’re a shy, scrawny thing you were an easy target. After being called a ‘freak’ a couple of dozen times my skin got thicker, and it all just bounced off me; Especially after I learnt how to punch properly.
My mum’s side of the family had always been more than a tad eccentric. My mother was a Fortune-teller, her sister was a white witch, one of my cousins was a palm reader, and my grandmother was an astrologer and so on. To this day, I’m still amazed my dad had the nerve to marry into such a family, but he did and for that I gotta be thankful, otherwise I wouldn’t be here today.
At twenty years old, I was the first girl on my mum’s side to have stepped away from any form of the supernatural when I decided to get a normal education – so I could get a normal career. Normal – that was something I’d prayed for every day throughout my teens, but with a family like mine, it was something that I never got.
I was the girl that never got invited to a single sleep over, never got invited to a party, and never got asked out on a date. To them I was the crazy girl with the crazy family, and to be honest I couldn’t be bothered to make them think otherwise.
I had my first palm reading when I was five years old, took part in my first séance on my Eight birthday, and had my fortune read to me numerous times until I hit puberty. I never wanted to take part in any of the hocus pocus, mumbo jumbo that they all spewed, and why would I when I didn’t believe in it? But I tagged along with the rest of them for a while, until I was about thirteen, and decided enough was enough. After that the only thing I participated in was helping out with the shop, and what kind of shop was this? Why a new age shop – the only kind for a Fortune-teller and her ilk.
That fateful summer, I came home for the holidays instead of trekking across Europe with a bunch of friends. I chose to come back and spend it with the family. Stupid, stupid me… It wasn’t that I didn’t love my parents or my childhood home – I did – but if I had known about all the things that were going to happen, I would never have stepped a foot back into this town.
The minute I was back, Mum had me working in the shop as usual, and it was pretty much like old times; boring and uneventful. Once in a while though, things could get a bit more interesting in the shop; a little spark that would brighten things up; but the excitement that came knocking on my door this summer wasn’t the type of excitement I was looking for. It was trouble – deadly trouble.
A/N:
Uh-oh, I’ve started another new story!
Seriously though, for those of you wondering, I haven’t abandoned my other stories, Erase and Rewind is still my main focus at the moment, with Hit and Run second (what’s up with the two word titles?)
Basically this story has been sitting on my laptop for a while, and I thought I’d post it on FP. I’ve got another chapter completed, and half of the third chapter done. I’m not sure whether I’ll pursue this story; I guess it depends on reader reaction, if people want to find out more, I might have to take another stab at it. The only problem is that this story is a bit up in the air, I haven’t got the plot cemented, and since I’m working on two other stories, updates may be few and far between.
I’ll probably be posting the next chapter of this story in about a fortnight, keep an eye out on my profile to find out when I’ll be updating again.
Chapter 6 of Erase and Rewind should be up tomorrow, and I’m still working on chapter 28 of Hit and Run. As some of you know, I lost my notes for H&R, so I’m a bit lost as to the details of the remainder of the chapters.
As usual I would love to hear what you guys think, so hit that review button!
