Prologue

The moonlight was eerie, reflecting down on the back of a young woman who had, being new in town and unfamiliar with it's folklore, had decided to take a walk. The moon itself was full for the night, when the people of the town stayed at home the most. But she didn't know this. Her mother, a real estate agent, had gotten them a house pretty cheap through work. When they had moved in, none of her neighbors came to greet them, no one in town acknowledged them.

On this first night she had just needed to get out and adjust to all of the changes in her life. A monster waited in the shadows, stalking her, waiting for his prey. It was the easiest meal he would have in a long time.

He leaped, his lean body forming an almost animalistic picture for one second, until he dropped down onto her. Screaming, she tried to fight, only exciting the beast more. He fought her, and with his superior strength brought her down easily, puncturing her neck with his fangs. The rich, red blood poured from the wounds, sustaining this perfect, ruthless hunter. The full moon gazed down at this feeding, watching the struggling girl loose the last of her lifeblood, and lending some of its mystic powers to her.

By instinct, the moment the last drop of blood left her body, the girl lifted up her head and bit down on his vulnerable neck, gulping down his blood as he drained her own body. And from this exchange of blood formed unbreakable changes and bonds that neither creature wanted nor expected.
