It wasn't until Layla had fully developed a plan for revenge - a dark, vampiric plan- that the full memory of her stupor hit her. She drank blood. She had carried an unconcious hooker and abandoned her on the streets. With him.
The green-eyed man who had attacked her. Who had kidnapped her.
Not that it would matter. Once a human became a vampire, all humans they'd once known forgot about them. That was why her mother had forgotten about her. Why it appeared she had never existed.
A wave of sorrow washed over her, memories washing away, leaving nothing but pain. And anger. More anger than she'd ever felt before in her life. Since that night, she hadn't felt a single light emotion. They were all dark and heavy, weighing her down.
What was wrong with her?
"What's with the scowl?" A rough voice spoke. It pierced the silence that had enveloped Layla before.
"Why? Why am I only angry, or sad? Why don't I at least see one glimmer of hope? Why?"
"You're a vampire now. It's in our nature, it's in our very being, to feel dark emotions. The hunt is now pretty much the only thing that will make you happy. Or other darker emotions. Things like Love, pure happiness, and innocence are now lost to you. Vampires only feel things that are a darker shadow to those emotions. Lust, vengeful or dark happiness, and corruption." She had already accepted the fact that she was now a vampire. It was obvious, the facts were right in front of her. But killing could never make her happy.
"No,"She protested, "things like sunshine and smiles make me happy." But thinking back to those items, she felt not a glimmer of joy.
"Ah, but you see, your whole structure has changed. You are no longer a creature of God. As soon as you changed, you belonged to the Devil."
"No...No. No! That's not true." His eyes gained a sad light as he heard her denial. The light soon turned more malevolent than before, as he spoke again.
"Yes, you are. Think now. How exciting would it be to sink those fangs into the vulnerable skin of a human? How the warm blood would rush to the surface, and spill onto your tounge. Think of how it would taste." He had wrapped his arms around her from behind, whispering into her ear. He had bent over until his chin was on her shoulder, and he took her wrists in his hands. He felt her shiver in delight, although she would never admit it. Peering into her slightly ajar mouth, he could see her fangs protruding a little. Even his own were, at the mere thought of the food that kept him alive.
"See? Do you feel the pleasure? Think of how joyful it would be to actually drink the blood." The shudder was bigger this time, as her memory of drinking Adam's blood resurfaced. The fangs in her mouth grew a little bit longer. The dry ache in her throat grew stronger, much more painful. Layla itched to sink her fangs into him again. All she could think of was the taste, the feel, the sensation of pleasure that coursed through her veins when she drank blood.
Forget about her mother. Forget she had ever been human and embrace this life. At least for now.
She still had revenge to take.
A/N: Wow. Only 609 words, and I had only 2 written pages. But, I like it. I'm pretty satisfied. I put more work into this story than any of my others. Like Love's Time Limit. Yikes. That story needs some serious editing.
