She holds me and kisses me and
cares

A dream, this girl, brilliant and pretty
a lover and a fighter, deceptively soft
skin, eyes like the sky in springtime

Our time is short, though she doesn’t
know it, she wonders if we’ll be forever

-We won’t, I know it because I know these things-

Alas!

A week, maybe two
she tells me she cares, she kisses me goodbye
one last embrace

I know without words why
she walked away

I’m not The One
I’m the shadow, the forbidden fruit
blooming like a jasmine

My head and heart are a little lighter
but I ask myself what’s the point of having a heart
if it’s always hollow?
