"Good and evil, we know, in the field of this world grow up together almost inseparably." -John Milton
Two boys, maybe six or seven, sat in a sandbox playing. Maybe more accurately, getting on each other's nerves.
The black haired boy was digging holes in the warm sand, which were soon filled in by a blonde boy. The black haired boy stopped digging and turned, obviously frustrated, his blue eyes narrowed at the blonde.
"Stop filling in my holes!" he fumed.
The blonde paused and looked back at the black haired boy with intense, brown eyes and retorted, "Stop digging them, then," before continuing his work.
The black haired boy's face flushed, as he dug up a hole the blonde had recently filled. He dug furiously, accidentally spraying sand on the blonde. A small pile of sand now sat on his golden head.
The blonde stopped in his tracks. He turned to face the other, shaking with anger, eyes flashing, and lunged. Kicking and screaming, yelling and punching, they tumbled in the sand.
"Casper!" the sharp voice rang throughout the yard as a short-haired brunette woman stepped out onto the patio. Less than a second later, she was joined by a long haired blonde.
"Reid!" the blonde snapped.
The black haired boy ran to the brunette who had called his name, tears shining in his eyes. The blonde boy followed slowly, knowing full well that they were in trouble.
Casper's mother had pulled out a handkerchief and wiped away his tears before brushing the sand off of him. Reid's own mother was also ridding her own son of sand while he spat sand out of his mouth.
Now came the scolding and punishment.
"Honestly, you two! Why do you two always insist on playing together when you fight half the time!" Casper's mother was saying as she grabbed a chair and sat her son in the corner.
Reid's mother chuckled as she did the same with her's in the corner opposite. "But that also means they get along half of the time."
"True," the other mother agreed, and the two went off to chat and to let their boys reflect on their actions.
After a few minutes, Reid turned to look at Casper. Casper turned and glared at him. The blonde grinned toothily at his friend. Casper just stuck his tongue out at Reid and turned back around to sulk the rest of their half hour.
A/N: I got this idea from reading a Nora Roberts novel and four in the morning. (I got the quote from the beging of the book.) My brother and cousin where also insperation. Fight and argue like they're the greatest enemies and the next day best friends.
It was brought to my attention by my beta that Casper and Reid remind her of Adam and Riley from one of my other works. Just so you know, this was not intentional.
Okay, I have a question to ask of my readers. Would you like me to continue a story about Casper and Reid when they're older? It will be seperate from this for this is only a oneshot, but with occaisional references. If you want me to, review or PM me with your thoughts on my proposal and anything you would want in it if I do write it. Also, it will more than likely be slash.
Thanks to all who have read and please review for they are an authors lifeline.
