Some things aren't meant to be forever..

The Empty Chair

-.-.-.-.-.-

For pappy;

I still miss you.

-.-.-.-.-.-

‘Twas a simple chair

By a window it sits

Made of wood so fair

Its sturdy frame never creaks

There, my pappy used to sit

Gently rocking to and fro

Light would streamed and framed him

Looking angelic sans a halo

Everyday was an adventure

with pappy, I remember

Till mom would often consider

sending us off to wherever

My pappy seems tough

But has a heart of gold

His hugs may be bony

But they’re hearty, twofold

‘Tis times like these

I felt most at peace

But then again some things

aren’t meant to last forever.

Fate decided to play something

The year I was thirteen

An evil illness claimed him

And I hated Fate for being mean

But God must’ve love him more

And didn’t want him to suffer

One night, He took him home

And I never saw him thereafter

Since then, all that is left

Is just his empty chair

Untouched, by the window

Its wood still so fair

Though the tears still flow

Grief melted slowly, like ice

Time may not seem to know

But I soon came to realize

The old wooden chair

Has never been empty

For it holds something

Melancholic, yet happy

Memories,

Of me and pappy.
