the San Diego phones lines always ring without an end
there is no time for husky whispering answering machines
"uh hi, its rob, i'm not here right now, i'll call ya back"
so i do my best to accept the San Diego way and keep the phone pressed to my ear
but the constant hum of a ring drives me back farther and farther into the bathroom wall
it makes sense
i'm waiting for a faceless boy to kill the noise
and speak
i'm offering deals i can't make
i'm imagining him in a way he can't be
i wish to inhale his hurt
and exhale into the gutters of the coast
leading me
leading me
into the ocean
well the horizon is squiggly and fragile
and it resumes its wave like movement to coincide with the
riiiiiinnnnnnnnngggggggggg ringggggggggggggggg
of the San Diego phone lines
I hum back until
“hello”
