My clear grey eyes were staring straight into those of the killer’s. Dazzling green. Fitting – they were just like her brother’s. This had all been a game to her, a joke. All of my hard work was for nothing.
Red, unbridled hair tumbled over the killer’s shoulders. Her colorless hands rested daintily on her hips. Not in a fighting position.
Her lips pulled back into a sneer, revealing her brilliant white teeth. She was mocking me, rubbing it in.
Oh, please. Please let it be over quickly! My thoughts were jumbled, my eyes fluttered closed as if it would help my concentration. Head pounding, mind spinning, all I could think about was what death was going to feel like. Maybe it wasn’t going to be as horrible as I had always imagined.
I had no weapon, no way of escaping. Her skills far surpassed my own; the killer could out run me, out fight me, and most definitely out think me. I cursed my previous underestimation for her.
Do it quickly, my mind continued pleading. And it was as if she could hear my thoughts. Her stance changed from a casual one into a low crouch.
She snarled as I sighed lightly. At least he wasn’t here. At least he wasn’t going to be hurt. He was safe. And that was all that mattered.
“What are you waiting for?” My voice sounded surprisingly steady, but I could hear the slight huskiness I was trying so desperately to hide.
It’s over, a voice whispered in my head. The cool, dulcet voice was quiet. Resigned, now.
But the killer didn’t spring. I opened my eyes in confusion, and say the head of beautiful blonde hair I thought I’d never see again. Lunging… Lunging towards her…
“NO!”
