She sat in bed, listening
As the hot salty tears silently rolled down her face for the thousandth time
It was the same argument they always had
She listened to them argue about how
"Y'all should just go back home if it's gonna be like this all the time."
or "I can't take it. I can't take feeling like I made such a big mistake
and I'm such a disappointment all the time."
Truth is, she didn't mean to do it
She didn't mean to make her parents so unhappy
She wished that she could be perfect and that everything would be ok
But it wasn't
She knew she shouldn't complain about living in California all the time
But she couldn't help it
She was mad and angry
And if she was honest with herself, depressed
She didn't want to be in California
She resented her dad for taking the job
But she couldn't do anything about it
She could only hope that one day
Everything would fall into place
And everything would be ok
She didn't think that would ever happen
But she could hope
