A/N: Hey! Here is Ryan and Rachael's story!!! It won't be very long but I hope you enjoy it!
For those of you who have read I'm Going to Grab Me a Teddy. This story actually takes place behind the scenes, starting the monday after Ollie's birthday soccer game and party.
This story is set in North Queensland, Australia.
The First Visit
Ryan Gregan parked his dual-cab ute in a free parking space and slowly climbed out. It was a bright and sunny Monday afternoon and Ryan was glad he hadn't had to work on this particularly humid March day. He glanced at the large, old-fashioned building in front of him with trepidation. He took a deep breath and told himself he was here for his sister. Suzie had been rather upset this weekend, though she'd never admit it. His shy little sister had taken an interest in his playboy best friend, Bobby. Her hopes had risen as a result of his affection during a friendly soccer game on Saturday, and then had been crushed later that night at Bobby's older brother's birthday party. Suzie had found the courage to attend, but had been hurt when Bobby made out with not one, but three different women, eventually taking one of them back to his room.
So here he was, inside a building he never thought he would willingly enter. He glanced around, unsure of where to start looking or whether he needed a special card or something. He spotted a large desk area, where a tall woman stood, pulling books from what looked to be a return box. He quickly walked towards her and flashed her his most charming 'good boy' smile, the one that had mothers and grannies falling all over him in motherly affection. He wanted out of this place as soon as possible.
"Excuse me, miss," he said politely, "I know this sounds really stupid, but could you help me find a book? I don't really know how to use the library."
Her head came up to look at him and she straightened to her full height. 5'11" he guessed, looking at the flats she wore on her feet. She scowled at him, but it seemed to make her look more cute than fierce, in his opinion. "I don't have time for time-wasters and flirts," she snapped at him, edging her stylish, thinly-framed glasses up her nose with one long, graceful finger. His mouth opened slightly in surprise. He hadn't been flirting, but now that he looked at her, he admitted he wouldn't mind having a go at it if he didn't want to get home to his sister. The woman was strikingly beautiful and completely different to the type he usually pursued. He smiled, she would be a challenge.
She was tall and slim, but not model thin. She had larger bones that matched her height and probably intimidated a lot of men. Her breasts were also large and full, her hips wide, her legs lean and deliciously long. Her hair was a deep, dark, natural red, with copper, gold and strawberry-blonde highlights throughout. Her skin wasn't too pale and she had a scattering of cute freckles across her sweet nose and high cheekbones. Surprisingly, her eyes were uncharacteristically brown, not blue or green like a lot of red-heads. She was dressed stylishly in a form-fitting, high-waisted dress that emphasised the length of her legs, the flare of her hips and the fullness of her breasts. Her hair was pulled back in an elegant scroll and her jewellery was delicate and silver. She didn't appear to be wearing a ton of makeup either.
Shaking his head slightly in regret, he smiled politely and tried again. "I admit, I'd usually flirt with a woman as pretty as you, but I promise you I'm not. I really need to find this book and I'm not sure how to go about it. Don't I need a card or something?"
She rolled her eyes at him and snorted. "Yeah right. I know your type. You think you can have any girl you want, sauntering in here and throwing your practiced smiles around. You expect everyone to fall at your feet and do your bidding. Well, I've had it up to here with pricks like you and your 'naughty librarian' fantasies. Take it somewhere else. It's not hard to find a book. Use your eyes to look at the shelves or the computer catalogue instead of eyeing up women like they're pieces of meat," she said, glaring at him.
Ryan growled in annoyance. Great, some fuckheads had been pissing her off and now he had to deal with a fiery-tempered woman on a man-bashing mission. "Look lady," he tried to say calmly, "Do you treat all your patrons like this? I didn't even make one flirty comment. I asked for your help finding a book for my sister. I just want to get it and go, that's all."
"For your sister?" she asked in disbelief.
"How old is she?"
"Twenty-two," he said, frowning, "What's that got to do with it? Look she's upset and I just want to borrow this book I know she likes. The bookstore didn't have a copy in, so I came here."
She burst out laughing and shook her head. "Nice try. I don't believe you. Why would you get your twenty-two year-old sister 'Little Women'?"
Ryan sighed and scratched his head, uncomfortable about discussing personal things with a stranger, particularly female strangers. He spotted an older librarian returning to her section of the counter and decided to try his luck with her instead. He walked off, without another a good bye, and with a smile and a few charming words, the old lady went and solved his problem. He smirked and waved at the sassy red-head as he walked out the door, watching her bite her pretty pink lower lip as she watched him leave. He grinned in satisfaction. He'd obviously had some sort of effect on her. Maybe it was worth a return visit…the book had to come back after all.
