a rift on the fiery skyline
i watch as the horizon bleeds and innocence is born.

-

the skyline exp l o d e s * * *
in a cascade of fiery stars * *
and i watch as the * *
galaxies crumble to the * *
sweet, sweet dawning **
of another universe *

i breath in the scent of
yesterday's mourning and
bask in the glow of
tomorrow's impossibility

the earth breaks and
we have no choice but to
stumble into the crevice
that is eating us alive

(but humanity has been
dead for centuries now,
and it was only a matter
of time, a matter of time)

i send a letter to the gods
and they let me stay
around a while to watch
the birth of a new creation

as the bloody screams of
long lost souls curl around
my ears, i smile as i take
in the sight before my eyes

there's a rift in the skies
that separates the blood red
of our old, dying world and
the lavender kiss of the new
galaxy that sits beside us
- content in its innocence

and from my perch at the
edge of this detonating
planet, i know that there's
no taunting apples or
slithering villains tainting
the cosmos of the new world
(& i know they have a chance.)

with a dove of satisfaction
perched on my shoulder,
i give myself over to this
weary old universe that's
just b-b-barely hanging on.

armageddon has been lurking
around corners for far too long now,
and as the universe swallows
me w h o l e,
i welcome him with open arms,

as i kiss his apocalips for the last time.
